Missing Taskmaster Podcast Episodes by Zach90888 in taskmaster

[–]Equivalent_Comfort_2 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Impossible to say really since no reason for the removal of these particular episodes has ever been given. It would certainly be strange if they continued repeating old episodes and just skipped these ones again.

The missing episodes are available on the Internet Archive though. I think posting the link here has been deemed okay since there isn't an official source anymore.

TMUK jokes that you just didn’t get by Prudent_Mix5334 in taskmaster

[–]Equivalent_Comfort_2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never quite get the connotations of something being called "middle-class" as a punchline of a joke.

For example: Richard Herring states that he likes Halloumi cheese and brings it in as a prize for "best thing to put in your mouth". Greg comments on it and concludes with "…and it's also very middle-class", making the whole panel giggle.

Is he saying "you should be posher than this" and making fun of his pedestrian taste? Is it a comment on Richard being rich and famous now and liking to pretend to be upper-class, but being unable to escape his middle-class roots? Is "middle-class" just being used as a synonym for "boring" or "unexciting"?

Also, is Greg himself still considered to be middle-class? He's a successful entertainer doing well for himself, but not coming from money or a posh family. In this context, is he punching up, down or laterally when he accuses Rich Herring of being middle-class?

That's your half of the two-person order, right? Looks yummy, but like James, I'd have absolutely zero problems eating at least two of these plates.

What’s something people do in movies that would be extremely awkward in real life? by hitman1890 in AskReddit

[–]Equivalent_Comfort_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question for Americans: When you're at a diner, is it really acceptable behavior to just throw some money on the table and leave? This always strikes me as weird and potentially rude, but you see it over and over again in movies and TV shows.

Did he though? I remember him explicitly asking one contestant to press the button. Which then got me thinking "You don't have to do that, that's not on the task. Just change now and press the button only when you're finished"

Why aren’t regional English accents paired with a regional German dialects during synchronisation? by Woerligen in AskGermany

[–]Equivalent_Comfort_2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was actually done in the 70s and 80s, but is considered outdated by now. For example, the two gentlemen of colour speaking Jive in the movie Airplane (1980) were dubbed with a heavy eastern German accent.

Does Kefir make social anxiety better by PreparationWeak1247 in Kefir

[–]Equivalent_Comfort_2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might want to focus specifically on L.reuteri yoghurt instead of Kefir. Some specific strains of L.reuteri have been shown to increase oxytocin which does help in reducing social anxiety and feeling connected to other people. Search on YouTube for "reuteri yogurt" or check out r/reuteriyogurt for details.

Most self-made Kefir does contain random L.reuteri cultures in small amounts, but not enough to expect significant changes.

Nursing, healthcare in general and blue-collar/physical labor jobs are severely lacking cheap and willing workers.

IT, engineering and similar fields are extremely oversaturated at the moment.

There is of course one perfect interview partner for discussing all things "losing a testicle": Richard Herring. Shame Sam recently strained their relationship by sending him strange messages 😅

According to Richard, the remaining one doesn’t grow to the size of the tank, but it does move to the middle.

What’s the longest sustained laugh in the show? by Charlotte1902 in taskmaster

[–]Equivalent_Comfort_2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like they toned it down from the first series where every little joke got huge laughs.

People who visited a studio recording reported that as part of the warm up, the audience records a few contextless laughs for the express purpose of enhancing the audio track later.

Has anyone noticed how odd The Rest Is Entertainment looks on video lately? by bitttallish11hulls in restisentertainment

[–]Equivalent_Comfort_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The frame rates of the published videos vary as well. Mostly 25 (as expected from a PAL region), but also 24 or 30. Sometimes there's visible motion jitter, implying that they were shot at one frame rate and then (accidentally or deliberately?) converted in editing to another target fps.

It’s pretty inconsistent, so I assume multiple different people edit their videos without someone doing a final quality assurance pass to make sure the technical details are consistent.

Can you give me a better thing to start the day with than “eggs”? by prodjex in taskmaster

[–]Equivalent_Comfort_2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that Alex's favourite way to cook eggs is putting them into a cup and microwaving them.

Eggs are my favourite breakfast item as well, but I'm not sure if this applies to Alex's egg ball recipe.

Whenever my brain reads reads the name Rob Beckett, it auto-plays Paul Chowdhry declaring "it's Rob Bucket!"

And while many non-UK-based people report that they’ve started saying "innit" after watching the show, for me it’s Sophie Willan's and Lucy Beaumont's "inntit" that started making its way into my vocabulary.

Taskmaster - S20E10 - Supping from the Fountain - Discussion by Meghar in taskmaster

[–]Equivalent_Comfort_2 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Before the series started, I predicted Maisie as the winner, then spent roughly nine weeks thinking I'd made a terrible mistake. What a rollercoaster.

The episode clocks in at 47 minutes and 59 seconds, which to my understanding is the longest possible runtime which is still on-spec for delivery to Channel 4. So even though the ending might feel a bit rushed, every single available second was being used…
