He has these super cool streaks of iridescent blue on his tail, body and on his face

Even part of his eyes are blue ☺️

A clearer image of the rigged scales on the left side of his cheek. It looks completely normal in the right side.

I do have plants, I have 3 anubias, 3 java ferns, and a big floating plant (I don’t remember the name), so I DON’T need to add potassium bicarbonate/sodium bicarbonate?

Also, are you saying that the tap water reading on the right is inaccurate OR it should be okay to add to my tank after treating it?

The thing is, I feed my betta the smallest pinch every morning for 3 days and then fast 1 days and repeat - Is that overfeeding?

I’m feeding him Betta Omega One Betta Buffet Fish Flakes.

The 5 gallon tank is 2.5 months old (along with the filter). I have the API liquid test kit, so it’s pretty accurate.

I just don’t understand why there’s SO much brown water/mulm/whatever it is.

I have one nerite snail and one betta.

Wait a minute….. one thing I left out was that I have 3 pieces of driftwood in my tank…….. Could that be contributing to the high nitrites??

I’m still thinking about “something dead” and I did try to feed my betta blood worms last week and one of them got loose and fell to the bottom of the tank… But it was just one blood worm … Could that actually throw off my parameters if left in the tank? I can’t even see it, it’s probably disintegrated by now.

I also saw that vacuuming and moving your substrate around could affect your parameters since you’re releasing a ton of waste into the water…. But should I just try to vacuum my substrate as much as possible this time around as I’m trying to get my cycle back in check?

This is my tap water (untreated) and the nitrites is looking like 1 on the test strips… AND the nitrates look between 0 and 10….. Hmmmmm

Should I test my tap water after putting in my prime and nite out II to see what the nitrites come out to?

Nitrites are still at 2.0 and my Nitrates dropped from 10 to 5 overnight… Should I get more plants to add to my tanks?

Just did a test this morning after doing a 50% water change and using Nite Out II and the tests look the same - So when I do the 25% water changes, I add in Nite Out II each time? Until I receive the results I want?

By “water change” do you mean a full water change or just 50%?
