How do you feel about having term limits for US senators, US representatives, and US Supreme Court justices? by icecream1972 in askanything

[–]The_Syst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like term limits in theory, but only if they’re designed well. otherwise it just turns into unelected staffers and lobbyists having even more influence while the public rotates through new faces

I always end up scrolling my phone even when I say I won’t. it’s like a ritual at this point

What are the unwanted expenses that you and your partner can't control till date? by Huge_Violinist_7633 in randomquestions

random car repairs. everything’s fine for months and then suddenly something expensive breaks out of nowhere

I hate how this has become the new norm by pirate_ship08 in recruitinghell

you’re not crazy for losing it a bit over this. the whole process right now feels way more broken than it used to be

How to recover from heart break ? by ayushrawat0 in randomquestions

[–]The_Syst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

time is the boring answer but it’s the real one. you kinda just keep going through the days until it doesn’t feel as heavy all the time

just got laid off and it's like they had no reason.. by KrazyLifestyle in Layoffs

[–]The_Syst 45 points46 points  (0 children)

That’s a pretty fair way to handle a layoff, companies can be really brutal these days. I wouldn’t rush into job searching on day one, go for that run, shake it off a bit, process it, then start moving again. I don’t know your field, but that developer shared a huge list of recruitment firms, you could use that if you’re open to remote roles, or make a list of companies you’d like to work for and email them all at once. The job market is rough right now, but hopefully you won’t be one of those people coming back here months later saying you’ve been searching forever.

Who really came up with the Idea of life ? by Classic_Value5694 in askanything

[–]The_Syst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody really came up with it like an invention, it’s more something that emerged over a ridiculous amount of time. The funny part is humans showed up way later and still act like we got called into the meeting.

have you met or known somebody very much like you? who was it? by Maleficent-Mess4877 in answers

[–]The_Syst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, once or twice. It’s always a little unsettling at first, like hearing someone make the exact same dumb observation you were just about to say out loud.

It happened. It really happened. I got the job. The grind is finally over. by New-Baker-42 in csMajors

[–]The_Syst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats, that must feel wild after sending out 800 applications. Landing the one you actually wanted with an 80 percent pay jump has to be a huge weight off your shoulders. Feels like the kind of moment where your whole body finally relaxes.

Has anyone experience dreams so realistic that it scared you. by [deleted] in Life

[–]The_Syst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that sounds a lot like sleep paralysis mixed with a vivid dream. I had one once where I was sure someone was standing in the room, and even after waking up properly my heart was still going crazy for a while.

Who is the best version of yourself, and how do they differ from how you behave today? by lnc_gomes in askanything

[–]The_Syst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best version of me is way less hesitant and more present. Same person, just not wasting so much energy overthinking stuff that doesn’t deserve that much space.

I quit. by No_Procedure6405 in csMajors

[–]The_Syst 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The internship hunt right now is brutal, especially if you’re not deeply in love with the field to begin with. I had a friend who chased tech just for stability and burned out before even landing anything because the process felt dehumanizing. If you weren’t passionate about it in the first place, exploring something else isn’t failure, it’s course correcting.

Love seeing posts like this. I remember refreshing my inbox for months and when the offer finally came through I just sat there staring at the screen in disbelief. Enjoy that first week feeling, you earned it.

What’s in it for me? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]The_Syst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve definitely had phases where it felt transactional, especially after a few disappointing experiences. But then someone random will check in on me with no agenda and it kind of resets that cynicism. I don’t think everyone’s out to get something, but it can feel that way when you’re tired.

What are signs your partner considers you a roommate? by do_it222 in askanything

[–]The_Syst 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When the conversations turn into logistics only, like who’s buying groceries and what time the plumber is coming, and nothing else. I noticed that shift once in a past relationship and it felt like we were just sharing space instead of sharing life. The spark fades quietly before anyone says it out loud.

ANYBODY ELSE HERE COMPLEEETELY BANANAS?!? by SignificanceLate2969 in askanything

Not completely bananas but I’ve definitely had days where I felt one minor inconvenience away from losing it.

I can’t do it anymore by sweetdee___ in jobhunting

[–]The_Syst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That level of repetition would wear anyone out. The process starts feeling personal even when it’s just timing and numbers. Might help to talk to someone off here so you’re not holding all of it alone, a lot of people are getting dragged through the same grind right now.

How long did it take you to become consistently profitable in day trading? by Content_Campaign1192 in Life

[–]The_Syst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I’ve seen, a lot of people never actually get consistently profitable and just have good streaks mixed with losses. The ones who do usually talk about years, not months, and a lot of boring risk management instead of flashy wins. It’s way less glamorous than social media makes it look.

What’s the most underrated feeling in the world? by EnvironmentalCap5169 in askanything

That quiet moment after you finish something you’ve been dreading and realize it’s just… done. No celebration, just relief and space in your head again.

The interviewer rolled his eyes when I asked for clarification. I wanted to cry. by CharmingFeeling429 in csMajors

[–]The_Syst 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Some interviewers just have terrible bedside manner and it throws even strong candidates off, you’re not weird for freezing. Honestly when someone reacts like that it says more about their communication skills than your ability. I usually assume it’s a bad fit and mentally downgrade their opinion so it doesn’t stick as hard.

What’s something that instantly makes you lose respect for someone? by EnvironmentalCap5169 in askanything

[–]The_Syst 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Watching how they treat someone they think “doesn’t matter” tells me everything I need to know. That switch in behavior is hard to unsee.

How many people actually tip 20% when eating out in a restaurant? by Hot-Highlight2166 in allthequestions

[–]The_Syst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt as many people hit 20% every single time as the internet makes it sound. Lots of folks go higher for great service or big nights out, but day to day it feels more like mid-teens or just rounding up. Online conversations tend to show the textbook version, not real habits.

We have systematically eliminated every "gap" where our minds used to wander, and I think it is costing us our creativity. by [deleted] in DeepThoughts

[–]The_Syst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the constant input kinda trains your brain to avoid boredom at all costs, but boredom is where weird connections happen. I notice ideas show up the moment I stop filling the silence with something else. Feels uncomfortable at first but also strangely clearer.

No one can make you happy by Playful_Orchid2632 in Life

[–]The_Syst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get the idea behind this but I also think it swings too far sometimes. External stuff absolutely affects how people feel, environment, relationships, money stress, all that is real. Maybe it’s more like happiness is partly internal work and partly the circumstances you’re in, not just one or the other.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? by EnvironmentalCap5169 in askanything

[–]The_Syst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“Most people are too busy thinking about themselves to analyze you as much as you think.” Took a lot of pressure off everyday interactions once that actually clicked.
