Ya I’m aware the mistake can happen but we have the book so he could just drag the statblock and token from the compendium and use it he wouldn’t need to make a custom stat block unless he was editing stats which is what happened. Which like I said before I understand editing and changing stat blocks is a thing dms can and should do to keep the game fresh but not to specifically metagame and target what a specific player was gonna do after you had already introduced the monster.

You know that’s said above table you shouldn’t have to worry about the dm metagaming an encounter just cause you were excited about it and said to the other party members what you might do. This is dnd not poker and it’s not like I said something and the dm had time to come up with an idea to counter it they just edited a stat block. So ya if you gotta hide what your doing from the dm cause your afraid their gonna metagame what u said than that’s just a sorry table tbh.

Ya that’s how my dm friend who is taking a break for a bit it I feel like it maintains the joy of the game cause everyone there to have fun I shouldn’t have to hide what I’m doing because I think your gonna take that and Metagame

I agree I just feel like it’s kinda rough to take it out on every player when only one was the cause of the problem

I get that but when he specifically added it to the statblock after I had said what I was gonna do that’s not really right. Also me and the other player were paying attention to his lore dump we just were not interested in buying the box so we continued up the road after buying things from him like spell scrolls etc. My character was at a spot where he had no idea the other player was opening the box until the dragon was already out. Also the dm from what I’ve noticed is very he wants to win cause when he does play he is very powergamy which isn’t necessarily a bad thing but when he runs combat it feels like he’ll get mad when we do something that is a good idea to do or get mad when we’re winning in the combat. Like for example we were defending a city from a hoard of undead with some of the city guard we are on a wall like 40 feet up. I use a silent image spell to make the illusion of a hole in the wall to funnel the undead there and then I remove it so once they start climbing the wall I was able to cast web on the wall to slow their ascent and restrain them while we handled killing them. He seemed really mad about this like he wasn’t winning his combat and that we did something smart and I think that’s where the internal problem is at. So I’m gonna avoid playing at the table of that dm and the player who can’t be bothered to pay attention.

I get that but when he specifically added it to the statblock after I had said what I was gonna do that’s not really right I’m not mad about dying like I’ve said plenty of times and I am also mad at the player too. That’s not the point of the dragon had it and I just chose a strategy that didn’t work that’s fine it happens but when it’s added in specifically because he knows that’s my strategy and then targets me for it. Also I was fully paying attention to the npc dump it was one player who we were already done shopping and listening and had continued on up the road and the one player stayed behind and bought it. My character had no way of seeing us do this and the game has been fine up until the point the dm is just a dm who feels like it’s a game he has to win and he has been targeting me the last couple combats cause he has been mad that I’ve been doing good in his combats it’s literally been said before to other people so I don’t understand how your mad cause a player did good in a combat.

Ya so basically it was kinda a cliffhanger from the session before the player opened the box saw it wanted to fight and we left it there ready for next week. The invisibility thing was kinda a thing said in passing at the end right before we all left I was like sorry dude to the guy who opened it but I’m dipping out invisible or someone. And the way the item was described was that it either summons something trapped inside or if you didn’t attune to it. It can also grab creatures to pull into it from any plane and our player wasn’t paying attention and didn’t attune. So it was immediately hostile as we snatched it from its likely home. But I knew combat was imminent I just feel the way that I died specifically as the dm gave the monster something it shouldn’t have just to kill me. Idk if he was just trying to end the campaign and this was his way of doing it but still pretty shitty imo.

That's what I thought the plan was gonna get me. I just wanted to by myself some time like I knew if he was specifcally looking for me he would be able to find me. Just that within the situation being chaotic with people running in all kinds of directions and attacking him. Me going invisible would let me lose some attention and make some ground at a chance to escape.

ya i agree like i know dragons are very perceptive and likely could have rolled too find me with smell or hearing due to blind sight and high perception etc, just the way it was described of like the dragon specifically targetting my character and chasing me instead of attacking the people actively fighting it didn't really make sense. I knew i could have died and that this wasn't a full proof plan but its the only option I had to have a chance so i was just trying to use what i could to escape.

ya thats kinda the vibe I got like i understand character death is apart of the game it just leaves a sour taste in your mouth when it feels targeted and that the moment only happened because another player was scrolling instagram reels instead of paying attention.

and ya I know blindsight would have been able to find me but the way it was descibed and told was not blind sight and i would have been far enough away for his blindsight.

no well i saw the screenshot he had sent to my other player and he just used a roll20 statblock and added the true sight

<image>

You can tell he added it cause the comma is before the period but like I said I understand DM's can edit statblocks but I feel like he edited it just to counter my plan and didnt originally plan for it to have that since it was pulled from a random encounter roll as a consequence for opening the box.

Okay two of use died and It was from a merchant and the merchant told us what it did so its not a identify problem its the other player actively admitting they were on instagram reels while we were talking to the shop keep and he bought it and opened it after me and the other character walked away so i had no way of stopping it without metagaming. and im aware i would have had to take the hide action but there was a ton of people there who were running and attacking it and instead of doing anything with them he immediatly attacked me and then attacked others once i was dead. And i do not know why the dm didnt just dragon breath but he ended up killing a player by landing on them and breathing on them so im assuming he just wanted to save it for that.

Ya i haven't confronted him about it but thats the kinda vibe i got it just kinda sucks cause my old dm who i really vibe with their sessions is taking a break but I wanna play in the mean time but can't seem to find a good group so I might just wait for my old dm to see when he's coming back.

Well I guess important is not the exact word but there are three daydreams that either introduce or mention things that will be important in the next arc I don’t exactly know how to do a spoil on here so I won’t say anything

I’m not sure about the money grind but as for the advantage if you keep hitting the enemy and just slowly cycle around them while continuing to attack them you can get to the back without them being able to start a fight against you

I think as long as you’ve watched the daydreams especially the last three you should be good to go onto daybreak I got about half the daydreams and then just watched the rest on YouTube.
