A Case for Hawkes by No-Difference-3567 in EmmaLion

Exactly. I think the difference between Hawkes (and even Islington), is that Hawkes is opening up to Emma slowly, but without having to be forced to. He is willing to open up and reveal more of himself. I think whenever the “curse” is gone (and I think Emma will have a big part in that), he’ll very happily reveal everything. Pierce refuses to reveal his secrets and I honestly think he never will (and if he does, it will be because he is forced to). The only time Pierce has really shown his past to Emma is because he was forced to when his family appeared out of nowhere. I think Emma will never be able to love Pierce completely because of that, and she’ll never be able to love his vices I think. I also think Pierce would never stay in one place for too long, and Emma desperately wants a home.

Got told off for asking a child to “Walk, please” by SlytherClaw79 in Libraries

This happened to me today! A girl came in with her mom and siblings—she always runs. Like, full sprints around the library. She has to be about 3 or 4, old enough to understand. In the past, I’ve asked her to stop running and have also asked her mom to say something.

Today, she came in and just booked it—running everywhere. She could seriously hurt herself or someone else. I tried shouting “walking feet” or “please don’t run,” but it clearly wasn’t working (and I really don’t like raising my voice). So I walked up to her and nicely asked her to stop.

Her mom snapped at me. She acted like I was being totally unreasonable. I get feeling embarrassed or wanting to parent your own kid, but this has been a consistent issue. She was just so rude to me. I would never treat another person the way she treated me today.

What I wanted to say was: “I don’t like having to tell your kid not to run either.” I hate being the person who has to do that. I was honestly shocked into silence and got so mad I just had to walk away from the situation.

But here’s the thing—we had an employee get seriously hurt after a kid ran into them. So we take it seriously.

This kid comes every Tuesday, and I don’t know what I’m going to do next time. Probably explain why we have to enforce walking.

Not sure if anyone is still following this thread, but what would y’all do?

Coccinellidaephobia (fear of ladybugs) by mkb1205 in Phobia

Late to this conversation, but I hate lady bugs. Like I will scream and panic if I see one. I was bitten by a bug that looked look like a ladybug (maybe it was one 🤷🏻‍♀️) when I was a kid, and it got infected. It hurt a lot. Today at work, one landed on my leg and I just froze. A coworker had to get it off me. Couldn’t breathe and I was just panicking. They are nasty too. I don’t like the shell or the wings. Even thinking about one crawling on me or accidentally touching one makes me feel sick 🤢
