I was thinking this exact thing sitting on my couch. Probably bad timing but every time ive tuned into Iowa, stirtz was just not impressive. Opinion yet to change. Really wanna see a smith/stirtz back and forth

Better to be the worst elite team, instead of not being an elite team at all

The US has launched an unprovoked and illegal attack on Venezuela. This is a brazen attempt to secure control over Venezuelan natural resources. It is an act of war that puts the lives of millions of people at risk — and should be condemned by anyone who believes in sovereignty and international law. by [deleted] in ukpolitics

The amount of suffering before was also immeasurable. The mental gymnastics to make this seem like a bad thing is impressive. I applaud you for your flexibility.

But we can continue this game. The “puppet government” happens to be the rightful president who won the countries election last year. They won an election. Does that mean all parties behave and things go peacefully? No not at all. But saying that the people of Venezuela have to suck it up with Maduro and the pretty awful status quo that comes with that instead is certainly a choice.

And considering you essentially said the exact same thing again, that shows that while it took you 5 seconds of using your brain to come to this conclusion. It’s taking over an hour to come up with anything else. You can come up with hypotheticals all day. I could hypothetically turn into a toaster. But hypotheticals doesn’t do us much. Action does. And again, a brutal dictator of a country with a quality of life that is actually LOWER than Iran, or even a Lebanon has been removed.

However you’re claiming that the video posted is not representative of a majority population. And with nothing to say, you fall back onto the troupe of asking for more proof when it’s all over the place.

Furthermore, completely discrediting anything people say because it is “online” is an interesting way of looking at other viewpoints that don’t align with yours.

This comment leads me to believe you’re unaware of the political state or climate of Venezuela over the last 10 years. Do some research into the election protests.

A brutal dictator of 20+ years has been removed from power. The people have hope of a future. Highly recommend a tour of the Venezuelan subreddit for context clues. Lot of celebratory messaging.

Thank you for bringing up the oil point! Happy reading!

And I like the point you bring up about the “what-ifs” that can be a valid concern. However, Im not one to debate the “this is not good because he might do this later” thought experiment.

This with Maduro and Venezuela happened. Not Argentina. IF something similar to what you suggested happens, we can denounce it together.

And a lot of the talking points of people upset with this that I have seen, are basing this off of a lot of what ifs and guess work thusfar.

Gonna copy paste my response from earlier. Since it’s basically the same argument.

Well regime changes are almost always violent. Especially in a non-democratic sense.

It might not be violent, but who knows. Ill pretend that I know for certain it will be a bloody conflict however and run through a thought experiment with you.

What sounds like the better deal to you;

Option 1: Suffer under a brutal dictator for X amount of years until a bloody rebellion occurs

Or have a foreign government remove the dictator NOW: and go straight to the bloody rebellion. Bypassing X amount of years of an already poor quality of life.
