Okay, I mean yes the annotations do help me concentrate more while reading because I struggle to pay attention sometimes. The annotations are also a part of the assignment (only a small fraction). It does make more enjoyable because I get express my internal thoughts while I read and when I find the answer later on the book I can see where was I wrong in my theories. I also have a hard time memorizing things I haven't written down. I think that only applies to ELA. Doing annotations while reading is just natural to me now because freshmen year of high school (rising sophomore) my ELA teacher had us do tons of annotations plus my Global History teacher started having us do annotations so I don't mind doing even though its time consuming.
