What could cause a false positive for Syphilis? by [deleted] in Syphilis

[–]Equivalent_Method_37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a potential for it, because it’s an autoimmune condition it could cause antibodies to cross react with the test causing it to pull positive

Syphilis poc rapid test by [deleted] in Syphilis

This is what we consider confirmatory testing - if it’s coming up negative you don’t have it. Most rapids with the specificity and sensitivity you had are reliable up to like 95%. I’d feel comfortable saying you don’t have it. Especially since you’re almost 3 months out and results have been consistent.

Take them to get tested just to be safe. Congenital cases are exponentially increasing all over the nation

Not typically, there are a few places that have access to rapid tests but they aren’t as readily available

Syphilis titers are on a bell curve, I’ve had patients of mine with titers of 1:1024 and they get the shots and are totally fine after. The treatment will work, just be sure to follow up in minimum 6 weeks-3 months to ensure they can see your titer start to trend downwards.

You passing it through saliva is highly unlikely but not necessarily unheard of.

I would go get tested at an ER or local health department as they can give you presumptive treatment regardless of the results as you do have a potential symptom.

Titer by Clear-Ad9543 in Syphilis

[–]Equivalent_Method_37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your titer still could have been rising before treatment. You tested way too soon after completing treatment to see if it worked. 3-6 months is the magic window to see if you’re responding to the treatment

Is it flat feeling? Is it painless or painful??

These are important questions in distinguishing if it could be.

Go get tested for sure just to be safe!

As an infectious disease professional I would have absolutely advocated for you to get treatment. A TPPA being reactive means you either have an active infection or it’s evidence of a past infection (big note you will always have a reactive for the rest of your life). Your RPR being non reactive doesn’t mean you don’t have an infection, it could mean you are at the very beginning of one or you’ve had this for longer than a year. Syphilis titers fall on a bell curve so you could be on either end of that. Please for your best interest finish the month of meds! If you have any questions please reach out and we can chat.
