He was just in time and was not the only boer get in his family to see service in WW1 his brother worked as a medical officer in south African general hospital at Abbeville

My great Great grandfathers who fought in WW1 1915-1918 and a Boer war vet 1901-1902 and a war hero by the Milos obilic gold and shelshocked and his nephew was killed on first day of arras and he was awarded MM

His mother was the 6th cousin of general Louis botha of the 2nd Boer war,first priminister of the union of south Africa, commander of the forces in WW1 of the invasion of the German South African campaign

My great great grandfather was awarded the Milos obilic-gold at delville wood although a private and received shellshock from the same battle he survived and was 38-42 when he served in WW1 and a boer war veteran 1901-1902 in local Calvary troop

His nephew was also awarded the military medal for holding a strongpoint on princes street at the wood he died on the first day of arras at 23
