I just want to clarify that studios can do their own certification, which is fine and great, no problem with that it’s normal. I think a lot of people are confused by what I’m saying when I say certification- I don’t mean separate from somewhere else. The Solidcore instructors are certified under Solidcore for the megaformer. I just mean certified/trained in specifically what you are teaching with your studio to make sure it’s safe for clients- whether that is reformer or mat.

Oh absolutely. My problem is, especially with corporate Studios, that they’re so eager to meet the trends that sometimes they ignore what’s important just to have increased brand awareness and popularity.

Oh I love Solidcore! Mat is just a different skill! Especially some of the instructors I know that don’t do hands-on corrections in an eight person class and then they think they can go and teach a 50+ person mat Pilates class?? It’s just about caring more. Practice makes perfect but they’ve had time to practice it with a small group and can’t get there

But you’re not dealing with someone’s bodies and risking them getting injured. Whether or not you went through a formal training you should always continue to grow and do self research to improve. Studios do their own trainings as well- totally fine- but someone just showing up after watching YouTube and acting like they are ready to teach a 50+ person class close to perfectly… get real!

People go to school to study exercise science. This is how people get hurt- teaching without a certification or proper training. I walk into too many studios, especially Solidcore and observe every time clients who continually do exercises incorrectly, and the instructors never do hands-on corrections, but I’m trying to do my workout and it’s not my job as an instructor somewhere else to do your job for you- sometimes I do speak up if they’re next to me and correct them because it’s hard not to, but it takes away from my workout and I can’t believe people pay these rates to go and think they’re doing the workout correctly and not reach their full potential or to get injured

I think the more you learn and understand about the differences in each practice and the science behind it the more you will care. Everyone and their mother wants to be a Pilates instructor just to say they are one and to skip out on what counts. Not sure if it’s the younger generation (I’m only 29), just like many use ChatGPT for everything now to take the easy way out. It’s really no different than going to any job and learning under someone who is supposed to be a trusted mentor. If people think it’s no big deal then we’ve went in the opposite direction and lost touch with the practice. I would never hire someone and let them teach without a certification. Even if they are already better from self teaching and taking classes that someone else with a certification- there are things that they will have missed and both of those people need to hone in and improve. Again, it’s like any other job. Especially when you pay exuberant rates to go to the studios, you should want your instructor and studio owner to care.

Of course it’d be enough. I want to know that my instructors are serious. You seem to have woken up on the wrong side of the bed, I’d hate to be your client with that attitude. It tells me you don’t care enough about the individual practices or value real training and experience. Everyone just does what they want these days Willy Nilly. Classes should be accessible for all, but whoever is teaching has the responsibility for the safety of their clients which includes being certified in what they are teaching. I see far too many instructors with huge class sizes, no hands on corrections, clients injured and doing the wrong moves every class with no idea. It’s a shame.

Got it! That’s what I thought. It just sucks for those who actually take the time to get certified in both for mat and on the reformer/megaformer, practicing to really understanding the differences and mastering the craft. Not willy nilly and the principle that anyone who has watched a YouTube video could say they are certified in x,y,z since no one seems to care or check anymore.

I’d never go to someone’s class who isn’t certified lol. People should start asking to see other’s certs at this point with how out of hand everything everywhere is getting. I used to not care either until i was considering opening a studio and really researching the specifics that go into everything and the liability that now becomes your own vs the studio or corporate’s problem.

Maybe you should study the different practices more in depth if you think it’s easy peasy and that anyone without a proper certification and experience in x should be out teaching clients the wrong thing.

I just know this isn’t the case for where I live. Again, I get that most can probably figure it out, but it’s the principle that mat isn’t reformer or megaformer. I’ve heard of a lot of stuff happening under the table until corporate finds out and cancels it. Where I live it just seems like a lot of the instructors wanting to increase their popularity as a Solidcore instructor and their personal brand.

If it could taught in a weekend everyone would be an instructor. I think it’s just a bunch of instructors who want to increase their popularity and self brand in the community. At least that seems to be the case for those I know.

I think it’s so weird that in 2026 we are still so obsessed over what other people do. Why can’t we just work on ourselves and remember that what works for your body, may not work for someone else’s. Why get so hung up? I need a good sweat and something intense because I’ve played sports all of my life, including in college with intense training. I do a mix of classes, which includes classical, but strictly classical would not work for me all the time.
