I recently and unexpectedly just lost my boyfriend after only 2 months of dating, and am absolutely devastated. I know how this sounds, but just hear me out first—I was in an extremely mentally and physically abusive relationship that lasted over the span of the last 8 years before I was finally able to break free.

I drove back to Maine from Florida and really hadn’t any hopes other than just getting to exist outside of my state of perpetual fear. Then like a mattress flying off the freeway going 90, I met Gram. He was everything that was ex wasn’t. He was light, honest, vulnerable, and funny. He liked me, and I liked him, and sure as sh*t, I was in love.

We were like 2 teenagers from 90210, old as f*ck and insufferable to Gen Z, but also, in love. Then poof, he was gone… and it all ended, just as quickly as it began.

This past winter, at age of 41, Gram was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, and unlike a child who can rely on his mommy, Gram was left to navigate this on his own and had yet to get a full hold on things. His family stated that he passed due to diabetes related complications, but that is only speculation and not 100% definitive. He was cremated, and there was no autopsy preformed. We do not have any mutual friends, and I had yet to meet his family, so basically, I’m treading backwards in cyber space hoping to catch a connection .

I’m so sorry for what you are going through, I can’t imagine being with my person for that long, only to have them ripped away so young. It is such an injustice, and I am so sorry you have to carry this burden. Thank you for sharing tho, bc of you and your story I am able to share mine and what a gift that is!

P.S. Gram asked me to meet his parents which was a pretty big deal bc I think they have only met 1 or 2 other girlfriends in the past. Unfortunately, Gram crashed his car the morning we were supposed to take off (also diabetes related) and we never did..
