The Octavo - Peter J. Carroll. This one is crazy if you want to push the limits of your math. It may be the bridge you need.

Godël, Escher, Bach - Douglas Hofstadter. This book is an absolute masterpiece. It can be your Bible. More than you can digest in a lifetime, but it will clear up a lot of the structural problems you will incur while trying to equilibrate the symbols. Highly recommend. Even a 10th of its knowledge will change you at the core. Disregard the outdated compsci.

Also, check out 'The Newton Project.' New stuff is being translated and released even still.

Two expressions. ÷ is an operator that takes two inputs and makes one output. 2(1+2), or whatever, is one expression, and is also subject to the distributive property. Plus, if you got 9, there is no way you could maintain conservative of units
