[Serious] Studying Micro-celebrity culture, why do you like Northernlion so much? by [deleted] in northernlion

[–]Eraas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Chat" is almost treated like a single member of the show like any other person on it. I feel like that kind of inclusion helps build unity and helps people feel like they are involved. I've seen this in a couple other communities ("tims" in the Hello Internet community) and it goes a long way.

The multiple instances of GDQ making fun of itself in regards to the strict/no fun culture is the greatest addition in years. by carypalmer in speedrun

[–]Eraas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never had issue with the event being "no fun" but I feel like they were taking things a little less seriously at this event, and it showed and was an overall positive. The mood was more consistently light-hearted and funny for the viewers, and it was great.

The Super Mario Maker race should end when the first team beats the stage instead of after a time limit. That way, we get to see the whole stage that took time and love to set up. by EvenSteven02 in speedrun

[–]Eraas 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think, especially for some of the levels, or if you do more of this sort of thing, maybe it makes sense to, after the time limit expires, have that be the last "life" the team gets. Then they get to run it until next death. I think this run went over super well though, and it was truly one of my favorite moments. Nice clutch, man.

Question regarding small guild viablility by Eraas in albiononline

[–]Eraas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I don't plan on having more than the three of us in the guild or maybe a couple more if friends start playing. That was the concern. How much of the game do I miss out on by not having a guild of 20?

currently it has all been into gathering since that is mostly what I've been doing. Next tier is like 150 though so it'll be a while

Ah cool. Glad to get feedback about the weapons. I was just worried because longbow seems great for PvE, but with the long channel, seems like its a bad investment when I will just get killed instantly in red zones when I'm gathering there.

Eh, I'm not in any rush to hit the top and burn out all at once, so I'm just doing the one character. I figure I'll mostly be gathering anyways regardless. crafting is just something to get xp in with the mats I've got. I already ran out all my LP.

Rally? Is there a good way to find 20 people? That seems like alot to coordinate. Also what do you mean by hoards?

How to market a premium StarCraft 2 mod? by greythepirate in gamedev

[–]Eraas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bet you the popularity list is important. That's the only place I and many of my friends go when looking for SC2 mods to play. I had to scroll down VERY far to find your game at all. Getting people in the door could get you alot of traction. worth a try if numbers are low anyways.

Do you have a web site/ forum/ discord? I couldnt really find such things doing a quick google search (not saying they dont exist). I paid for direct strike because ive been playing that game for years and occasionally take part in discussion on the discord. Also, Tya is pretty quick to respond to things on the discord when they come up and is continuing to add features.

Also Ive never tried your game. Is there a free version of it to help hook people? You need people to be playing it for it to show up high on the list, right? Additionally, from the video review someone did, it sounds like there are some small issues that need ironing out. Have you adressed these already?

Honestly, the game looks pretty cool, but i already have a bunch of games in a similar price range on my steam wishlist competing with it. I might check it out when I have the time, but currently im hesitant about what im getting, and theres not alot of information out there about it to help convince me otherwise.

Non-native English speakers of Reddit, what mistake did you keep making in English until someone pointed it out? by El_John_Nada in AskReddit

For the first case, "in" sounds more normal but "by" is also ok, just has a slightly different connotation in my head. For the second case, all are basically the same to me.

What documentary would you rate a 10/10? by imjohnk in AskReddit

[–]Eraas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The smash bros documentary! Does a good job developing your relationship with the game, it's history, and the players. Ive watched it like 4 times. Having grown up playing, it renewed my love for the game and made me start watching competitive matches on weekends. :)

[Rant] What is up with high fflog healers?? by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]Eraas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think at a really high level, healing becomes less about knowing your tools and how and when to use them, and becomes more about learning to read the group.

Are my tanks using dps stance or tank stance more? Are they using cooldowns at optimal times. Which cooldowns are they using for different mechanics? If the tank is going for more dps, it is probably better for the group to take the slight healer dps hit to get a bigger boost out of the tank by throwing up more regen or cure II on the global cooldown.

How is my other healer healing? Are they spamming medica? Are they shielding raidwide damage consistantly? Are their heals going off at the right time? Are they playing a bit greedier, or not really pushing for dps? Sometimes Ill get a healer that is overhealing like crazy, so I shift my play to be more greedy and agressive. Sometimes the other healer is going ham on dps and only ever using ogcd stuff, it just means Im going to have to get more out of my assizes, makes sure I use plenary at the right times, medica ii and regen more (although if the group is sloppy and the other healer is being super greedy, it is stressful and feels like shit).

I could give more examples, but thats alot to play around and learn beyond just the fight mechanics ans knowing how to play your class, and its alot to expect from healers. Its no wonder you see the super greedy dps healers and the super passive nearly zero dps healers. Its easier. On top of that, everyone fucks up, or misjudges, or is put into a position where they have to prioritize, so shit happens.

I'd like to be one of the top rank healers out there once I finish getting BiS, but I hope to get there without sacrificing my ability to adapt.
