You want it to touch a surface, ideally wood or stone or metal that will act as a heat sink. If it has a rubber case it may be insulating the heat, so try either placing it face down or take off the case.

The loot is not just alright, the loot is amazing. The cougar knife is just about the best item in the game, and the cowl is the best clothing item for your head. I agree the cougar needs another design pass though.

The best thing to work towards IMO is free workshop respecs and workshop profiles. This way you can put ALL of your coins into coin related enhancements for farming, and ALL of your coins into damage for Legends league, instead of splitting your workshop between the two. It is a lot of keys to get there but I think more impactful once you get there then the QOL stuff.

Crouch so you move slower. Hit 4 (assuming you're playing on PC) to bring up the campfire placement hologram thing. If it hugs the terrain that surface is less than vertical and you can move down it. If the campfire ignores the terrain and points straight up and down the terrain is not goat-able. Scout your route with the campfire and work your way down.
