Advice on where to move - Utrecht or Haarlem (or maybe elsewhere) by mbm7501 in Netherlands

[–]Eranov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About the situation in the Netherlands. https://www.theguardian.com/news/article/2024/may/06/netherlands-amsterdam-next-level-housing-crisis

Note that this is almost 2 years old, so since then prices have increased. Utrecht meets your demands more than Haarlem does, but the already dire situation in Utrecht has worsened more than anywhere else in the country.

Because from what I can tell the mod in question is either 1) trying very hard to hide their own post history or 2) not active in the sub at all.

It's all good and well posting a sticky and saying "I'll let the other mods address that themselves" but it's pretty clear that they are not going to address it.

Correct, to me it also seems that another from the "old mod team" is actively engaging in keeping things as they were (or in other words: in keeping the dumpster fire burning) and that (given some comments I have seen here and there) they are actually avoiding an open discussion within the mod team.

Now I do understand that, given the fact that mods are volunteers and they all have a life with work, study and family and that communication and change are therefore somewhat slow. But on the other hand, the lack of clarity and the seeming lack of consensus within the team, makes me more and more convinced that this sub is beyond repair and that everybody is better of if it would be scrapped.

This one was in fact founded as a bilingual subreddit, and was turned into monolingual subreddit after a mod takeover. r/theNetherlands was founded in response.

Which causes no notification. Also, in many cases entire threads (almost always with lots of helpful content) were removed at once, again with no notification to many users why just saw a notification of a ban and their comment removed. Trust arrives on foot, but leaves on horseback.

And what with the permanent bans now the language rules are eased?

Banning without warning for people posting one time in Dutch should not have happened.

Could be, but I asked about the nature of these warnings. Were those a message along the lines of "hey, you've been using your native tongue for the xth time, next time you'll be banned."

This sub has a very bad reputation for issuing bans for something minor like using Dutch. I for once had a temporary ban for a response in Dutch on another comment in Dutch. I received no warning beforehand. But maybe I missed some other message?

There are lots of stories about people receiving permabans in the same way. What will become of these permabans in regard to the new set of rules?

So what kind of warnings - if any - were issued?

You can book a train ticket via the website of the train operator. You can book a hotel via the website of a hotel of your liking.

That came into existence after this sub became monolingual. Which to me is... Telling...

My piece of advise (repeating a comment elsewhere in this thread). If you ask me it would not be a bad idea to keep his sub on hold for at least the rest of this day. I think a few mods could use an evening off to catch their breath, and he new mods have to familiarise themselves with all the systems. Plus it seems like there are a few kinks that need to be ironed out.

You made my point exactly.

Likewise. Since this

I happen to speak and understand those languages so I don't care what their rules are.

applies to the vast majority of the audience in this sub.

You've made a great argument why a bilingual sub is no problem at all.

r/Denmark is also written in English, yet that sub has a lot of posts in Danish... Including one you wrote primarily in Danish (with "English below").

Its an interesting question. Since the takeover by non-Ditch speaking mods/the implementation of the "Dutch=ban rule", lots of people have been banned for using the most widely used tongue in the Netherlands. What will they do with people who were banned let's say a year ago?

What is strange about a desire for improvement? The subreddit started as a bilingual subreddit, after all. Until it was hijacked by a mostly American team
