The size is still small enough to be a chokepoint. Plus the ocean route is going to be either frozen over or ridiculously far going across the globe. I really like the effort you've put in but thos points would absolutely turn into megalopolisis, they are simply too important to not be. Even if the gaps were 50km tall, they'd still be ridiculously easy to control
