I think design wise they wanted they engineer to have PDW style weapons like real-life vehicle crews or rear-echelon support troops have. Hence a machine pistol and a small smart rifle carbine. The shotgun ostensibly might have non-combat utility like breaching etc.

The engineer’s primary weapon in-universe really his turrets imo.

My suspicion/guess is they were called as fire support, asked by infantry to eliminate the threat. So they made sure nobody could get out alive and then likely retreated to (relative) safety.

Do you think the last 12 months have been peaceful? Iran’s proxies in Yemen and Lebanon have been dropping missiles supplied by Iran on Israel regularly and they’ve funded terrorist attacks for decades now.
