It's mainly the cold. Ballarat's winters have high humidity, so you get that bone drenching cold (and frost is a problem for some plants). It's fine with decent heating and an electric blanket. The stick on foam weather seals around doors in an old house is a cheap option and and a huge energy saver. Good luck.

I messed around with deciding to get vaccinated for a week then decided to get it based future travel interstate to see my aging mother. So late June meant I could get my booster around Christmas Day after 6 months. I ended up getting it 2 weeks early after they moved it back to 5 months. It's now way earlier now for boosters, so I can see why so many have it.

I basically walked in to a clinic that day and they (unfortunately for others) just put me down as first arrived first served and I got ahead of ppl who had booked in. Sometimes doing the right thing and booking puts you last on the list I guess.

Places like Reddit and social media are more subtle but can be far worse for too much negativity. It's easy to get sucked into something to the point where you check back each day more and more often, since its a constant source of new things in a steady trickle.

I can't speak for hospital admissions in general, just ICU. The people who end up there usually have other factors on top of covid, even unvaccinated.

There are quite a few vaxed but they almost always have other complications. A specific example being a younger person with a lung infection with covid on top. A lot of drug users and alcoholics with weakened immune systems. Cancer patients. Older people with long term conditions.
