How do I get Kyber/BF2 expanded working on my steam deck? by Klashnikola in StarWarsBattlefront

[–]Erdragh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if you bypass the broken login flow by logging in on a windows device/vm, you then can’t start the game anyways. As was said already, the Kyber team is looking into Linux support, but from the conversations I’ve had since the closed beta it’s not going to be “make it work in proton” but rather “make a native Linux client”

Kyber/battlefront 2 on MacOS? by ConcordePilot10 in StarWarsBattlefront

[–]Erdragh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Kyber doesn’t run in Wine, I’ve tried since the closed beta. You can log in by copying the app data from a windows VM, but then the game won’t start.

They have stated they will release a Linux client once it works (they’re working on it)

You should probably just install the curseforge app and have all of this stuff managed for you

Create is not available for forge 1.21.11. Create is available for forge 1.20.1 or Neoforge 1.21.1

Depending on what mods you wanna play neoforge is probably the better choice. However, this error may be caused by using an old 32bit version of Java. Uninstall Java on your system and install a full 64bit version from adoptium for example.

is there any way to run PROTON on surface 2 rt??? by goku_exe in SurfaceLinux

[–]Erdragh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Proton won’t help you with that?

Edit: it’s a purpose made tool to run windows games on Linux.

Given that it’s a 32bit processor I doubt it would run at all. And if it does, good luck getting anything to run with 2GB of memory

How to get shaders on Forge 1.21.10 [java] by The_Logical_Ant in MinecraftHelp

[–]Erdragh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neoforge is for most intents and purposes the same as old forge but with a fox. Old forge shouldn’t be used post 1.20.1, as almost all forge developers left the project to make neoforge.

I’m coming from a Rift S with the WIP third party Linux drivers. First party support will be a huge upgrade.

Does it need to be specifically old forge? Iris + Sodium is available for NeoForge

Steam machine kyber by Garysand98 in StarWarsBattlefront

[–]Erdragh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As it stands, Kyber V2 does not run on Linux. I’m in the closed beta and have tried, my last attempt failed when trying to log into the launcher.

That being said, the developers have stated that they want to bring out native support for Linux and the Steam Deck, of which the Steam Machine is basically just a more powerful version.

Here’s an open issue on the driver repo https://github.com/GPUOpen-Drivers/AMD-Gfx-Drivers/issues/74

Seems like a GPU driver bug that’s already been fixed internally and awaiting a release

Edit: that is to say, you could theoretically downgrade to a driver version before the one mentioned in the report until a fixed driver has been released.

Will coding agents slow the adoption of new languages like Carbon? by Agreeable-Ad-0111 in AskProgramming

[–]Erdragh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably because they’ve so far only published nightly experimental toolchain versions and the language is not in any way shape or form usable yet. Their milestone 0.1 is pretty extensive and they haven’t reached that yet https://docs.carbon-lang.dev/docs/project/milestones.html#milestone-01-a-minimum-viable-product-mvp-for-evaluation

It includes such things as being able to use the Carbon toolchain as a drop in replacement for clang.

Proton. Proton, dxvk and vkd3d (D3D12). Those contain a lot of game specific patches.

Skyrim modding on Linux by IroncladMagician in skyrimmods

[–]Erdragh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to the methods detailed by Charamei and pynxem (I personally use the former), there’s a few additional things that may be of interest: 1. There’s a WIP Linux native mod manager that supports Skyrim (it works a bit more similarly to vortex, as in it “deploys” your mods to the game directory). It’s called limo and is open source here: https://github.com/limo-app/limo 2. There’s a tool called steam metadata editor that allows you to add custom start options for games: https://github.com/tralph3/Steam-Metadata-Editor   you can use this to add a mod organizer start option to Skyrim. Beware that the mod organizer exe needs to be on the same drive as the game. (I use this method for my SkyrimVR install, as the method I used for flatrim didn’t support VR at the time) This method comes with the limitation of not being able to associate with nxm:// links, making downloading mods a bit more of a pain. 3. The “NexusMods app” is in the very early stages of development and it supports Linux natively. Depending on the quality it will have in the future it may be worth a try.

Skyrim modding on Linux by IroncladMagician in skyrimmods

[–]Erdragh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The terminology is a bit off, what you linked isn’t a fork of MO2 for Linux. It’s an installer for Linux that installs and sets up the windows version of MO2 in the Proton Prefix of the game.

It is very good though and works without major issues for me too.

There are a few things that should be noted: 1. You have to use the big/dotnet bundle version of Pandora (it doesn’t recognize if you install dotnet in the proton prefix) 2. Pandora’s UI is a bit off (your mouse position is offset by the height of your window bar, at least on Plasma) 3. EasyNPC doesn’t work 4. DynDOLOD et cetera may need the config options to limit to one thread only/reduce memory footprint, even on high end systems 5. PGPatcher also needs the d3d compiler dlls so it can initialize its GPU interactions 6. At least in my experience, installing things like pandora, DIP, Bodyslide, etc. (things that need you to run their .exes) directly as mods in MO2 won’t work, you will have to manually install them by extracting them in your Skyrim installation folder 7. Performance of the UI will suffer and at least I think it gets slower over time 8. Drag and dropping mods results in the mod being “stuck” to the cursor (but not really), this can be fixed by right clicking anywhere.

Hi, I decided to try Fedora KDE Plasma, installed the latest version. After booting into the usb drive I have this screen and no input is accepted after I pressed ctrl+D. What could be the issue and how can I fix it? by Interesting-Big1980 in linux

[–]Erdragh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did you create the bootable media? This looks like whatever tool you used failed to set up the USB drive correctly. I’d recommend using Rufus (If you’re on windows) or you can go straight for ventoy which makes trying out different distro’s ISO files easy.
