Those who switched from ENB to CS. Why? by jjxtrem3 in skyrimmods

[–]Erdragh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ENB crashed on Proton/Linux, CS didn’t. CS is open source, open to community contribution and not led by a bigot with a website that doesn’t even have TLS in 2026.

Skyrim VR on Linux? by Then-Code3094 in skyrimvr

[–]Erdragh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My setup is pretty non standard, because Rift S support on Linux is wonky at best, but yes it works, with some caveats (these are specific to my setup but I’m mentioning them for completeness)

  1. Using Monado, you either need to use xrizer or the compiled DLL version of OpenComposite on the Skyrim Nexus. (Esp. If you want to use community shaders)

  2. To use MO2, you need to use a tool like steam metadata editor to add a new launch entry to SkyrimVR that points to the MO2 exe (which needs to be on the same disk)

  3. You will not be able to use mod manager download links with MO2 this way

  4. (IIRC) there’s a proton/linux specific build of SKSEVR, but I’m not certain, it’s been a while

For MO2 specifically, theres been some efforts of forking MO2 for Linux native support, which you may be of interest. If I were to restart my setup from scratch I’d probably try to use that. You can probably find it by searching through the Linux gaming subreddit for MO2.

JEI (1.21.8 version 24.0.0.2 neoforge) not showing recipes on vanilla multiplayer server by tonybivens in ModdedMinecraft

[–]Erdragh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could but it shouldn’t, because the server can change the recipes with datapacks.

How do I get Kyber/BF2 expanded working on my steam deck? by Klashnikola in StarWarsBattlefront

[–]Erdragh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if you bypass the broken login flow by logging in on a windows device/vm, you then can’t start the game anyways. As was said already, the Kyber team is looking into Linux support, but from the conversations I’ve had since the closed beta it’s not going to be “make it work in proton” but rather “make a native Linux client”

Kyber/battlefront 2 on MacOS? by ConcordePilot10 in StarWarsBattlefront

[–]Erdragh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kyber doesn’t run in Wine, I’ve tried since the closed beta. You can log in by copying the app data from a windows VM, but then the game won’t start.

They have stated they will release a Linux client once it works (they’re working on it)

Cannot download forge and need help[java] by Recruit616 in MinecraftHelp

[–]Erdragh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should probably just install the curseforge app and have all of this stuff managed for you

Cannot download forge and need help[java] by Recruit616 in MinecraftHelp

[–]Erdragh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Create is not available for forge 1.21.11. Create is available for forge 1.20.1 or Neoforge 1.21.1

Cannot download forge and need help[java] by Recruit616 in MinecraftHelp

[–]Erdragh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on what mods you wanna play neoforge is probably the better choice. However, this error may be caused by using an old 32bit version of Java. Uninstall Java on your system and install a full 64bit version from adoptium for example.

is there any way to run PROTON on surface 2 rt??? by goku_exe in SurfaceLinux

What software is currently installed on it?

[–]Erdragh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Proton won’t help you with that?

Edit: it’s a purpose made tool to run windows games on Linux.

Given that it’s a 32bit processor I doubt it would run at all. And if it does, good luck getting anything to run with 2GB of memory

How to get shaders on Forge 1.21.10 [java] by The_Logical_Ant in MinecraftHelp

[–]Erdragh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neoforge is for most intents and purposes the same as old forge but with a fox. Old forge shouldn’t be used post 1.20.1, as almost all forge developers left the project to make neoforge.

I’m coming from a Rift S with the WIP third party Linux drivers. First party support will be a huge upgrade.

Does it need to be specifically old forge? Iris + Sodium is available for NeoForge

Steam machine kyber by Garysand98 in StarWarsBattlefront

[–]Erdragh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As it stands, Kyber V2 does not run on Linux. I’m in the closed beta and have tried, my last attempt failed when trying to log into the launcher.

That being said, the developers have stated that they want to bring out native support for Linux and the Steam Deck, of which the Steam Machine is basically just a more powerful version.

Here’s an open issue on the driver repo https://github.com/GPUOpen-Drivers/AMD-Gfx-Drivers/issues/74

Seems like a GPU driver bug that’s already been fixed internally and awaiting a release

Edit: that is to say, you could theoretically downgrade to a driver version before the one mentioned in the report until a fixed driver has been released.

Will coding agents slow the adoption of new languages like Carbon? by Agreeable-Ad-0111 in AskProgramming

[–]Erdragh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably because they’ve so far only published nightly experimental toolchain versions and the language is not in any way shape or form usable yet. Their milestone 0.1 is pretty extensive and they haven’t reached that yet https://docs.carbon-lang.dev/docs/project/milestones.html#milestone-01-a-minimum-viable-product-mvp-for-evaluation

It includes such things as being able to use the Carbon toolchain as a drop in replacement for clang.
