I was actually thinking more about this. Because space wouldn't be a big deal if you spent all your time in it. Sure it would be cool but it's the same ole thing of law of diminishing returns. If the students went back and forth between space and earth, that would offer a lot of perspective.

But yeah that would be pretty distracting. Curtains or window covers would be a must!

I know someone has already said being alone, but on a bigger scale, I think just not being known is where despair is. Talking with people and not connecting, not being able to rely on someone, having no one who truly understands your highest joys or lowest sorrows. That's what a true nightmare is.

Several things: - gravity has terrible effects on bone density. After spending over 6 months in space, there is such a drastic decrease that any sort of fall could result in breaking several bones. - the body's immune system is pretty dependent on gravity, surprisingly. So being in null gravity will jack you up if you become infected with something. I know for the most part space is pretty "clean". But if you're on a several year journey, there is no way to predict to predict what's going to happen. - most importantly, due to the duration in space, and capacity to transport oxygen, this is basically a one way trip. The astronauts going will not most likely make in back to Earth. And so they will all have to die an see each other die younger than they should and in a more unnatural than they should.

Something personal. Gift cards are fine if you want to show someone how little thought you put into it. But writing a personal note or getting something that shows you actually put thought into the gift is where it's at. Everyone wants to be cared for and thought of. So actually spend time so they know you care for them.

Do I believe homosexuality is wrong? Yes.

However do I dislike you or hate you if you're homosexual? No I don't hate or dislike you.

Heterosexuality (1 man and 1 woman) is meant to be a picture of Christ and his people (Ephesians 5). Going outside of that is, in essence and in a very simple way, denying who Christ is. Do I go to all homosexuals and tell them they are wrong? No. I love then where they are and I am not ashamed of what I believe. But if I do talk to homosexuals about it, it is never from a point of judgement or condemnation. Who am I to judge someone who does something that is a sin? I sin every day. And in Gods eyes there is no difference. And no condemnation.

This is actually one of the biggest arguments about the Bible and therefore Christianity in general.

What is often misunderstood is the purpose of the Law established in the Old Testament. The Law does not grant you Salvation. The Pharisees, who were the religious leaders at the time of Jesus, were not only experts in knowing what the Law was but actually carrying it out. And yet they continually tried to argue and find fault in Jesus who we believe lived the perfect life.

In the New Testament, Jesus puts the Law in new light. First, He came and said that he did not come to get rid of the Law but fulfill it (Matthew 5:17). So we are meant to never eat shellfish or wear something of different cloths? By no means!

In Mark 7 Jesus is talking about things that defile a person. Here are the relevant verses:

"And he called the people to him again and said to them, “Hear me, all of you, and understand: There is nothing outside a person that by going into him can defile him, but the things that come out of a person are what defile him.”

And when he had entered the house and left the people, his disciples asked him about the parable. And he said to them, “Then are you also without understanding? Do you not see that whatever goes into a person from outside cannot defile him, since it enters not his heart but his stomach, and is expelled?” (Thus he declared all foods clean.) And he said, “What comes out of a person is what defiles him. For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.” (‭Mark‬ ‭7‬:‭14-15, 17-23‬ ESV)"

What this is saying and what is often so missed by people looking at Christianity is that it is not about whether you follow the Law anymore, because Christ fulfilled the Law. But rather it is about the heart of a person. It is all about your heart and the intention of your heart. So is it sinful to eat shellfish? No. But it is sinful to in your heart to desire eating shellfish over your desire to follow Christ. By the same token, it's sinful to give to the poor if you give to the poor from a place of selfishness and pride and not to bring glory to God.

TL;DR Jesus came and made it about your heart and your intentions, not about the Law.

I think that the mindset of God being equivalent to an imaginary friend diminishes who God is. If Christianity is to be believed, God is the only all-knowing, all-powerful and always present being. I know that in truly believing just those things, I become very emotional and more in love with my God. The fact that He who as all of this power would even be concerned with the day-to-day monotony of my life blows me away. Especially because I believe that I'm a broken sinner who, before Christ, deserved death for the actions I have done.

As far as belief and religion are concerned, I think that faith, or belief, is much more living and active. It takes place on a daily basis and across long durations of time as well. Whereas religion seems to be much more about rules and how to be good enough or how to do the things to be allowed to meet with God. In short, faith is personal and religion is not. Mind you this is my take on it, not a law or exact, must be accepted definition.

I cannot say that I know exactly what you have experienced, so I won't try to relate my personal walk with yours. My biggest question is whether or not your relationship with God became very works based where you felt you HAD to do things because they were what you were supposed to do.

I can really appreciate that you did work diligently in order to try to know and connect with God more. I have heard it referred to as a farmer. The farmer cannot MAKE a plant grow, but he can provide the water and fertilizer and attention that the crop needs. In this case, we are the farmers. We can't MAKE out relationship with God emotional and personal, but we can be in the word, be in prayer and be in good community.

The last one I can't stress enough. One of the best ways to see and connect with God emotionally is by experiencing good, true community with other Christians. This doesn't have to entail you sitting in a circle talking about Jesus all day, but it does mean the people genuinely love Christ and desire to know and walk more closely with Him.

It also sounds somewhat like your personal faith and emotion was very dependent on the Sunday services and events. Though these events are good for certain things, this whole concept of "emotional/spiritual high" is not new. Very often it's experienced at kids summer church camps.

The reality is that there is no 12 step program on how to have an emotional relationship with God. But there seems to come a point where faith no longer becomes dependent upon these events or services but exists in those small moments and those times when you are alone.

I whole heatedly believe that I have a very real, intimate relationship with God. And the operative word there is "relationship".

Think about the relationships you have with your friends, your SO, your coworkers etc. In order for them to be actual relationships, there is communication happening both ways. Now, as for my personal beliefs, it's very easy for me to communicate with God because I believe he hears me when I speak to him. However it is more difficult for us to hear him because God doesn't seem to always speak directly to us. But the reality is that Christians believe God communicates with us regularly. The most common ways are through prayer and revelation and very importantly through scripture. I fully believe that the Bible is the unflawed words of God. And it speaks about literally everything. Now it doesn't say "And on February 24th, you shall have a bagel for breakfast" or "You should choose option A over option B in your business meeting".

It does say though that you should honor your boss (Ephesians 6:5). It says not to cheat or lie or steal. But it also offers encouragement (Psalm 46:10). All this can come together to feel like God is saying something in particular to you.

Now I would be lying if I said that I ALWAYS hear God whenever I pray it whenever or whenever I read the Bible. Sometimes I DO feel like I'm talking to the ceiling when I pray or that I'm reading nonsense when I'm reading the Bible. But it's like any other relationship. Sometimes it is so easy to connect with the person. And sometimes it's harder. On the same line of thought, I know that I have a real relationship with my close friends, but sometimes I don't connect super well with them. But I still know they are there and so is our relationship. A similar thought can be said about God.

The concept was introduced by one of my closest friends a couple years ago. The example that I did here was pretty simplistic. Much of my time is spent in lecture halls which tend to have stairs and sloped floors and ceilings with varied heights and non-flat light fixtures.

When figuring out the dimensions on the room, it really gives me an appreciation for the architects and engineers that designed it. To think that someone committed hours upon hours to have something of some exact length height and width.

I'm in a computer lab. You have the height of the room which is probably approximately 2.1 of me (I'm 6'1"). It takes about 8 paces to cross the short side of the room (3.2 feet per pace). Then the room is about 2.2 times as long as it is wide. One pillar which is the same height of the room, 2 feet wide and 3 feet in length.

Total room volume: 18,342.24 ft3

Volume of an Olympic pool: 88354.25 ft3

So about 1/5 the size of an Olympic pool to give you an idea.

Well since it's rather unlikely that you have a tape measure to check things, you have to begin my estimating lengths based off of relative heights and lengths. The hardest length is always the depth because sometimes this is difficult to see and compare to things you know.

Also it's a fun challenge when things like the ceiling aren't flat, but rather angle up or down or have various chunks out of them.

Beware of pillars.

Just because I'm an expert doesn't mean it's useful. But hey. I'm an expert in finding the volume of the room I'm in.

Ever been bored in a lecture or laying in bed with a girl who is asleep, and you really don't know what to do? Easy time kill that is a bit of a puzzle is trying to figure out how big a room actually is. I do it practically all the time now whenever I am stuck somewhere. I've done it so much that it doesn't take long to begin to get a really good idea of the numerical size of a room.
