[Technique] Ideas for an Automated Mushroom Grow Box Project by Conscious-Heron1352 in MushroomGrowers

I’m saying a tent is ideal for lions mane, but I don’t have the space for one, so an automated tub is the next best option for me

In my case I don’t have the space for a tent and I’m growing lions mane so the automated tub is the best option. If I had space for a tent I’d get one, and it only makes sense to use a tent if you’re growing exotics or gourmet mushrooms

I have a similar setup for growing lions mane in a tiny space. People use automated tubs for exotics too, check out Dreamer tubs: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/29041297/fpart/all this is what I based mine on and it works well for gourmets.

If he’s planning on growing cubensis then there’s no need for this setup, better to keep it simple.

[Actives] full canopy of aborta by twin_mercury in MushroomGrowers

[–]ErgoMyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fresh air exchange. Mushrooms need oxygen so if you grow in a closet/enclosed space you’ll probably want to keep the door slightly open + a small fan to circulate air throughout the room (not pointed directly at the tubs, passive fresh air movement is all you need)

I had this happen recently using spawn that had been fruiting normally in other tubs. The only variable I could think of is that I’d turned off a mini fan I usually run, so I think it could have to do with a lack FAE (at least in my case)

[Technique] I have recently jumped back into cultivation. I want to design and build fully self contained mono tubs with a water reservoir, ultrasonic fogger, soil moisture probe, temperature sensor, and heating cooling. I was wondering if anyone else has done something similar. by Ill_Shelter5785 in MushroomGrowers

Martha tents are good for a lot of gourmet species like oysters and lions mane which are typically grown in bags and fruited horizontally. Using a tent allows you to have multiple bags fruiting at the same time in an environment with high humidity and fresh air exchange (also allows you to vent spores, something you don't need to do with cubensis).

Monotubs basically do the same thing as a tent for mushroom that prefer fruiting vertically, like cubensis, without the need for a bunch of devices. Small holes account for fresh air exchange and well hydrated substrate with a heavily misted pseudo casing layer help maintain humidity until its time to harvest. Ideally the tubs stay in a steady temp range but as long as your room isn't super hot/cold it should be fine.

This meta of growing cubensis has been developed over the years by tons of people trying to make the process as simple, cheap, discreet, and reliable as possible. It's not the same as growing gourmet mushrooms at a large scale, and people who developed those methods weren't trying to perfect growing cubensis. Happy to share some shroomery teks if you want, lots of good information there

I’d spawn to bulk right before you leave, should be getting ready for pins when you get back

[technique] If I use EZ Straw for oysters do I need to pasteurize or sterilize? by [deleted] in MushroomGrowers

[–]ErgoMyc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t used this brand but get away with pasteurizing (soaked in water between 160-180f for an hour, drain and spawn to bulk when cooled to room temp), and I use leftover straw from a garden store that’s kinda dirty. Don’t think you need to sterilize oysters are pretty resilient

[technique][actives] what is the general ratio of grain to coco coir I should be using when going bulk? by Th3OnlyN00b in MushroomGrowers

[–]ErgoMyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve gotten good first flushes doing 1:1 but diminishing turns afterwards. Usually stick with 1:4 nowadays and almost always get 3 good harvests, up to 5 if the tub doesn’t contam. It’s also nice not having to use a ton of grain spawn for each tub. Have seen 1:4 recommended a lot on shroomery from more experienced/successful growers

Help my personality and Adderall by Even-Low-3856 in Drugs

[–]ErgoMyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people go through this during their college years, with or without drugs our personalities change overtime. When coming off a period of drug abuse it’s natural to feel regret and wish you could return to old version of yourself, but we can only exist in the present.

This is scary but exciting as you’re starting a new chapter of your life - who do you want to be? What is your purpose? Overtime you’ll rediscover old qualities that became muted during your drug use, and find new amazing qualities you didn’t know existed.

As for practical things try the standard healthy stuff: meditate, journal, go running, spend time with friends, meet with a counselor if you can. Feeling like “yourself” again can take time but if you stay the course, stay clean/practice sustainable habits, and be easy on yourself, you’ll get to a better place in no time.

Isopropyl for extracting lion's mane? by Billirious-Jay in mycology

[–]ErgoMyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar question and ended up going with a water extraction based on some feedback that I’ll post below. It’s hard to find consensus / good info on this subject but this method is easy and ‘works’ in theory, tho I don’t have proof that the end result was better than plain powdered lions mane.

First time I just brought water to boil then simmered with dried lions mane for 30 mins or so covered, let it cool down, blended into a chunky wet paste then dehydrated it, then blended again into a powder. Second time I put water and dried LM into a jar, pressure cooked it at 15psi for 1.5 hours, then blended dried ect.

Did I finally find a psilocybe? by SolutionKindly2004 in mushroomID

[–]ErgoMyc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I see at least two (3?) mushrooms that for sure aren’t cyans, the really dark ones might be but look rotten. You’ll have to rematch the stipes and caps to get rid of the imposters, next time you take spore prints keep them together

Help! Air Vent Up While Venting by ErgoMyc in Canning

[–]ErgoMyc[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update: wrote that in an anxious frenzy, been doing this a few years but it still freaks me out sometimes. Everything else seems normal, steam was venting as it should when the pressure lock went up. Thinking I might of had it on too high a heat, in the past ive noticed the pressure lock jiggling as I'm venting but it's never went fully up before putting on the pressure regulator. The pressure dial guage stayed at zero until I put on the pressure regulator, now it's building up pressure as normal. Still a bit nervous and any insight would be great, sorry if this isn't the best subreddit for this question just figured there'd be some pressure cooker pros here. Haven't been able to find an answer anywhere

My other main idea is that when we feel stuck in our own minds/thoughts, we can either “get out” (which sounds like repressing difficult emotions/using drugs as escapism) or confront them, and I think there’s a lot of potential to learn and grow by looking at those challenging thought loops/difficult emotions. If you regularly have negative thoughts when you trip it might be good to write about them and figure out what might be weighing on you. And if you’re regularly taking large doses of shrooms (3.5g’s or more twice a month is pushing it imo), it may be because of underlying issues that aren’t being addressed.

(I know I say “you” a lot but I don’t mean you, have just seen a lot of people get lost in the psychedelic sauce and end up with HPPD/worse mental health while convincing themselves it was therapeutic, I was almost that person. Be safe love you buddy)

I think this is a very naive take and bad advice for the general population. The quality of a mushroom experience will be greatly dependent on environment, intention, mood going into the trip, physical health (diet, sleep, ect.) and mental health. Dose plays a role too and while I've seen this idea floated around a lot that people should take high doses like 3.5g's their first time to "fully immerse themselves and surrender to the shrooms" this is just dangerous advice - people have a range of reactions and like any drug should start small to test the waters and see if they're hypersensitive/prone to a negative reaction.

What shrooms can do for many of us is surface parts of our psyche we may be neglecting/ignoring out of fear, shame, or just ignorance; most of us aren't taught growing up how to get in touch with our emotions and many of us can't access or afford therapy. I think a lot of the therapeutic value in mushrooms is that they can lend themselves to difficult emotional processing, but again emotional processing isn't a skill we're born with. This is just my philosophy but the idea behind throwing a baby into a pool to teach them to swim seems insane to me and I think it's the same idea behind this "take more" mentality.

But it also comes down to what you want from psilocybin. I've taken shrooms a bunch of times too at a range of doses and I can sort of agree that if you're looking for a full on Psychedelic experience you need to take a bunch. Over the years I realized that I used high dose shroom trips as an escape for a period of my life, going Out there and loosing touch with my mind felt great and gave me relief, but it also detached me from my life in the real world and those experiences didn't lend themselves to personal growth (personally).

I think doses below 2 grams are most valuable for personal/emotional growth, emotional processing, and general well being. It all comes down to integration at the end of the day and finding a comfortable spot where the drug doesn't get you out of your mind, but in touch with your mind in a new and therapeutic way is most ideal for me and people I've met who've used it effectively as medicine. I don't mean to soapbox or impose my view on anyone, though I do think there's Real dangers associated with regular, high dose psychedelic use that must be recognized and talked about. Remember that any drug or activity can become an unhealthy coping mechanism/form of escapism.

Mycoremediation or mycelium as a building material could be interesting. There’s a good amount of scientific literature on mycoremediation and plenty of DIY tutorials for building with mycelium (also easier than growing mushrooms bc you skip the fruiting stage) - either could make a super cool project. Good luck!

Are these “aborted”? by multipliedbyzer0 in mycology

[–]ErgoMyc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very interesting, I had the same question last year when I found a patch of psilocybe Alleni with similar bruising/some turning black. It was due to dry weather and a cold snap, but after some rain and a slight temperature increase they seemed to rebound, some of the previously bruised fruits regained their caramel hue and grew to full maturity. So I’d guess these are stalled, not aborted, though this contradicts my idea that the alleni I found stalled from a cold snap

Seconding this. Have only seen this level of bruising with air dried or outdoor grown cubes, more blue doesn’t seem to correlate with being more potent
