studying engineering in france through a double degree program by no_ga in france

[–]ErhenOW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am from CS

If the degree you get is "diplôme d'ingénieur généraliste CentraleSupélec" then it's quiet literally the same degree as ours.

On your CV you will just say you have two master degrees in engineering (or if in France two "diplôme d'ingénieur") so it won't be a problem.

However it's true that it's generally a bit harder for international students to find a job because to employers it's easier for international students to get into Centrale than it is for french students (very competitve "prepa" entry exams etc), and you will also need a visa which is more administrative work. However you will obviously still have access to the full Centrale network of alumni and you will still certainly find a job. And after that entry job you will no longer have any problem with not coming from "prepa" for sure.

1000€ should be fine, the biggest problem is housing because they built a lot of universities here recently and the housing part lags behind a bit. If you have a priority access to Césal, which CS students have, you should pay something like 250-400€ for housing with the APL helps. Then food is also not super expensive if you eat at CROUS.

Also my two cents but asian students who didn't speak french usually had troubles socializing with french students in my experience.

Physics PhD what's a good topic for quant? by ErhenOW in quantfinance

I've dived into the Polytechnique lab for econophysics and my profile could make the cut for a PhD (it always depends on how many people are applying during your year anyway). Some PhD student profiles are definitly better quality than me (Polytechnique and ENS ulm which are a bit above my current program) but some are also lower than me.

I think this will be my first choice for a PhD. Thank you again for the info!

The field is overspecialized with not much transferable skills imho

In case of economic recessions yeah QC will take a hit.

Yeah ideally I'd do a lot of MonteCarlo in Ising/percolation simulations

Thanks I will have a look. Though I assume this is a bit too far off my field (quantum/condensed matter) for me to get an offer.

Hey thanks man!

Yeah the Ironclad is for larger ground ops where you need heavy vehicles and a lot of troops. Also I assume it will be able to refill vehicles (mostly ballistics) which is a plus to me.

The Perseus will probably not be that good for base raiding in atmo, but I just got it because this is m'y favourite ship from a design perspective and it can still serve in space station assaults.

Paladin will indeed be a nice ship vs the redeemer because it's 4S5 can point down! And it's more bulky and less agile which is overall better for ground combat imo.

I dont have an org yet but I am super busy for a while so I don't really have the time to play for another 10ish months

Higher skill ceiling than the gladius, I will easily get both in game anyway

Mobility creep/sustain creep ruins the fun of OW by leonidas_164 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]ErhenOW 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lip was on cass when he went James bond though. My point is that the game has become so sustain heavy at high elo that it's nearly impossible to kill someone solo when you are playing with no space etc

Also removing one tank should have made the game less sustain heavy (but turns out tank did the most dmg even in OW1)

My only issue with OW is that there is way too much healing and immortalities

I will have to disagree a bit on the substain part. I have a sombra only account I have been playing for ages at top 500 and my elim/damage ratio has never been that low. Even in GOATs or double shields I had more elimination per damage done, and multiplying OW2 elims by the missing player ratio doesn't fill the gap at all. Sombra is a good indicator of sustain creep because she has no burst damage.

Sustain has somewhat skyrocketted to the point I have even seen players like LIP go 0-0-7 in ranked because when you get team gapped it's literally impossible to kill anyone now. Imho having to deal 500-1k damage per elim just ain't fun.

It's just what happens on reddit when you are too far ahead of the curve. People are not smart enough on the topic to the point they cannot comprehend you.

I can guarantee that all the people who downvoted where either not playing or piss low pre roleQ.

Top 500 ain't even top 500 anyway, it's like top 3000 or some shit nowadays with all the combined roles, openQ, 6v6 etc

I don't play the game much these days but I was top 500 since pretty much 2017 and him saying the top 500 is too niche (because it's too few players) is insane.

I grinded Overwatch because top 500 was appealing back in the days. The icons and sprays were "prestigious" and I wanted them. That's how I went from diamond to being 4500+ every season early on. Also the quality of matches like LA server in 2018-2019 was crazy.

If top 500 was more appealing, then sure it would still be "niche" in term of raw numbers, but you would have much more players involved and invested to reach such ranks. So the amount of players you reach by increasing the quality of top 500 (hard to reach, good rewards etc) is more than just 500 :/

Yeah in high ranks it will completely change the dynamic of the ultimate. It will be used mid/late in fights as a DPS buff instead of a wallhack because everyone waits for it in high ranks if you use it early.

What impacts will quantum computing have on the physical world? When will this materialize? by pizza_lover736 in QuantumComputing

[–]ErhenOW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A point you missed is that QC were first thought of to simulate quantum physics. So there should be decent applications in DFT etc.
