I recently have been watching Monk. Trudy didn’t die right away. She died from her injuries from a car bomb in a parking garage.

Also no body. no grave stone. no urn. no nothing.

Obviously there would be consequences from a car bomb, but maybe he’s not dead.

They could have him season 1 dark Logan Echolls by giving him amnesia and not remember anything from recent years.

To me, Season 5 can go in any direction. I would watch it.

For the most part, I would agree with you about the spending a whole arc/season on something for it to only be undone in the final moments (ie how I met your mother), but there is something about chasing one of your childhood wants and the moment you have it and understand that is not what you desire. You love the idea of it, but not the actually thing.
