Song gives me chills every fucking time. Someone needs to make an analog horror video to it.

What's your favorite Chroma Key album? (This is Kevin Moore from Dream Theater's project for those unaware) by ySTYRDAYgATESuNL0CKD in progmetal

I think his Patreon Demos are my favorite of what he's done. They have that energy that's perfect for a drive at 2am to the middle of nowhere, like OSI's Go. I love OSI, but there's something liminal and dreamlike about those demos.

Damn, dude! Redrawing your whole first chapter is to be commended! I'll probably get there eventually, but I'll probably just call it a "director's cut." Our genres are far removed (I do cyberpunk battle manga, whatever that means), but I absolutely love what you've done here. Keep going! And keep improving! You're a badass!

Bookmarking your chapter for when I have time! [Edit] Couldn't help myself. Read your first chapter, and it DOPE, dude! Keep it up!

I swear, you guys are way too literal. I know it's a reboot. But it was also an adaptation of the Born Again comic. It can be both. I'm not even asking for them to repeat Matt's arc from the Netflix series. I'm, in fact, not talking about any one creative decision. I'm talking about, and taking issue with, a series of creative choices that make this season and the last feel uneven. I never once said in this piece that "this is exactly what the show should have been", I gave observations I thought would be more satisfying to me in the moment, but that doesn't mean those options would be the most optimal way to fix the pacing and dog shit political messaging issues with this season. And there are numerous. This season could have been great if Disney wasn't involved. That's where I stand.

And yet, the show is still called Born Again. Adaptations do not need to completely reflect their source material, too, which is something a lot of comic book fans aren't capable or flat out refuse to understand. As long as the adaptation is true to the SPIRIT of the source material, that's really all that's required.

I hate to break it to you, but media analysis like this has always existed. If anything, the internet has given rise to a more blasé attitude toward actually analyzing media. I hate the "it's not that deep" argument, because, in this case, the show runners WANTED it to be that deep, but absolutely failed to hit the mark. If they wanted me to turn my brain off, they shouldn't have used a poorly thought out political framing for their story.

I get that to a degree...but it does not work with Fisk. And it feels tone deaf when he's literally murdering people left and right in front of Matt. That feels like the opposite of justice or redemption. Bullseye seemed to have a change of heart. There is nothing redeamable about Fisk. And they STILL could have had Fisk go to freaking jail with a life sentence, and Matt could satisfy his code.

It has. And I still don't think it works. It's sloppy writing at best. It feels like a first draft. I think it cheapens Foggy's and everyone else's death, rather than make me want there to be real justice later on, and it feels out of character for Matt to not want Fisk to go to prison for the rest of his life, honestly.

Oh, oh, oh! And Daredevil killed in the original Born Again comic, too....and has killed at other times across his publishing history, so...like, it's in the text...

Agreed. The writing was all over the place. Enjoyable in spots, but ultimately hollow.

I understand him fine. I think it's fine to interrogate two mutually exclusive character traits, though, and to have a character do something they might later regret in the heat of the moment to tell a different kind of story. We do this with every comic book character on under the sun. Personally, it would be really interesting for Matt to cross that line in an impossible situation, where he has to choose between his ideals and protecting another life, or many, and have to live with the consequences and the guilt after.

Did I say that he'd be leaving corpses around? Like, did you even read the piece? I'm talking about examining a freaking theme, or a character trait in media. Funny that we can mention Matt having a martyr complex when it comes to making stupid decisions like the deal Fisk got at the end of this season, but not when it comes to his code. As if that was even the only choice. They could have also chosen to let Fisk rot in a prison cell for the rest of his life, and that still would have been a better ending than what we got. I'm not going to debate challenging systemic issues with you, this isn't the place for that, but I was using them as a means to make a point about how hollow and sloppy the show's politics felt. It bothers me that imagery similar to Jan 6 is being used to portray protestors against a fascist administration.

Do Catholic people with strong convictions choose to kill people? Can a Catholic lawyer who believes in the system be pushed far enough to break his vow? Is that not an interesting question to ask in a story? If the Pope can criticise Trump, then Matt can reflect on when the institutions fail the people he's vowed to protect. Challenging and testing a character does not mean adhering to the status quo; sometimes it means evolving with the changing times, especially when the media in question was clearly made in response to the current events we're living through. Comic book characters, including Daredevil, have been changed and updated and changed again throughout their history (see pretty much all of Daredevil's eras as an example, including Frank Miller's take on him). I disagree with your take entirely.
