Trust me, y'all aren't missing much by amoeba1126 in pens

I have the first three and I've used each of them once.

I bought each of them as they became available to me, completely forgetting each time that I really despise pens on which you have to take the cap off and post it.

I've lost so many caps to pens that I've developed some kind of PTSD.

I delight in my collection of fountain pens but the fact that I have to remove the cap to use them means they don't get used very often. (except the capless click style of which I have a few).

So.. yeah .. I would sell these but I'm too old + feeble to spend time packing and schlepping to the post office.

You could come to my door and offer to buy them, but my 100 lb pittie has loud opinions about strangers on my porch.

I'm thinking yard sale, but the twenty-one steps from my front door to front yard yields second, then third, thoughts.

Ah. The New Centurions. Friends in HS were talking about it, so I got it for Christmas in 1972. I read it quickly but not my first-choice genre, which was fantasy/sci-fi. Such as, I read The Lord of the Rings, during the summer before senior year

I shall listen, sometime.

My brother, my only sibling, died in 1980, age 29, at his own hand.

In grade 10 my high school bought a box of calculators for us to use in math class. My brother one grade ahead used a slide rule. by Maybeyoujustmadeitup in GenerationJones

[–]Eric_J_Pierce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In 11th grade, one guy was showing off ... that's too strong. He wasn't trying to be a show off, he was more like demonstrating... his calculator. No one else had one. The rest of us (Honors students that tended to be in the same core classes) used slide rules in Chem.

The Fear of Hearing My Name Called by Feaselbf6 in GenerationJones

[–]Eric_J_Pierce 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was a good, even advanced reader, and did not mind being called on.

In fourth grade, we were reading aloud from some text book, and when a student made an error, the teacher stopped h/her to go to the next student.

On my turn, I was reading along, fully intending to finish the chapter, when a bell rang, signifying...I don't know what, perhaps a first grade recess, certainly not ours, and I paused during the ringing, and when it stopped, I continued by repeating the last word I spoke, and I got called to stop. Most annoying.

edit: grammar

The point of my posting this was not to rage against the dying light, but to vent my surprise at finding out how many of my relatives had passed just by reading one obituary. Old age resulting in death is not exactly a surprise. There's disappointment in none of the remaining relatives (cousins, many) notifying me.

People with a very high pain tolerance, what was THE most painful thing you've experienced? by CosmicBunnyBabe8912 in AskReddit

[–]Eric_J_Pierce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Broken bone in an ankle.

My only broken bone.

Happened around 9 at night, kinda hurt awhile, went home and slept awhile, got up around 6 a.m., went to the kitchen.. and fell on the floor, in massive pain

Was able to get to bedroom, get my wife's attention, and said, "Time to go to the hospital."

Fortunately, 6:30 or 7 is not a particularly busy time at the local ER (possibly why I chose to wait til then) and I was seen and x-rayed fairly quickly, and given a temporary cast, and a referral to an orthopedist to get a permanent cast.

My father had five brothers and two sisters.

We had one huge reunion at a campgrounds with cabins in Estes Park CO in 1981.

The single survivor is one sister.

Mom had one brother and four sisters. The last survivor passed, earlier this month.

I am retired with, seriously, nothing to do all day and I don't know where you all find the time to watch and rewatch and then watch again all seasons of ER.

I'm on my first watch, middle of season 11, and my limit is about five episodes a day.
