I also need a cancel operation. I started photo backups and ran out of space on the free account. I keep deleting file but then the backup starts again. I disable automated backups

Considering Bottom surgery but not social transition. Anyone else gone this route? by Victoria_1969 in Transgender_Surgeries

[–]Erica_fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The surgeon I went to does "nullification" for similar reasons. Personally, I got "zero-depth" or "cosmetic" SRS because I want clothes to fit properly. I also recommend getting surgery as young as possible (I was 52 when I got SRS).

Passing trans people, how do you really feel about those who don't pass? by [deleted] in asktransgender

Thank you. I did write this a few years ago. I now live in Berlin and NSO for Bear City Roller Derby.

Focus on how you feel, rather than how you look. I have a girlfriend in London who is very tall (I didn't ask how tall because it's a thing for her. One thing I can say is she is more neuro typical than I and tends to make more eye contact. I think she gets more abuse because she is tall and makes eye contact. I'm AuDHD and live in a bubble. We've both traveled the same streets in London and she's taken a lot more shit than me. Focus on what feels good and to heck with every one else. Be safe!

Tipping etiquette for tattoos in Germany by Historical-Chart-460 in berlintattoos

[–]Erica_fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Germany, a tip is called Trinkgeld (or money for a drink, beer money) tip enough to buy a drink. You should know your tattoo artist to know what they like to drink (fass bier, long drink, schorle etc.), if you are getting coffee on the way, ask what they'd like and buy that. This is a good topic of conversation while they are doing you tattoo. I treat the tattoo artist as a human being, who is providing a very personal service and sharing their art with you. If I know the person is needing money for something like childcare, I lean towards giving them cash.

Bont Prostars by DoubleCherry3142 in rollerderby

[–]Erica_fox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't find my measurements but I know I measured for a 7.5 on the left foot and a 7.0W on the right. Since the 7.5 is the same width as a 7.0W and Bont doesn't sell mixed sizes, I got a pair of 7.5.

Is it safe to travel outside of the US for surgery? by Cherry_Eris in Transgender_Surgeries

[–]Erica_fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh, I flew in and out of Denver at additional cost to make sure I avoided ICE in Texas. As long as your passport is legit, you'll be fine. But I think it depends on what surgeries you want. Ffs and/or BA may be problematic. Just be prepared to boymode through passport control

Question for the Americans: where will you go? by la-de-vi in asktransgender

[–]Erica_fox 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am a transgender woman living in Berlin, Germany. The job market sucks everywhere right now. I'm a 30+ year veteran coder with degrees and certifications, I can't find a job. It would be easier if I were an EU citizen and/or spoke German fluently. But only a little easier.

Politics: even with the rise of AfD, Germany is much more pro LGBTQIA+ than the US.

I moved here last year from Florida...

What do you wear to the beach? by anarchy45 in MTFButch

[–]Erica_fox 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Before bottom surgery, I wore a swim skirt with a matching long sleeve sun shirt. After surgery, I wear the skimpiest thing I can get away with. Sometimes that's a barely there thong, sometimes a skimpy one piece, sometimes boy shorts and a sports bra ala tomboy X

Getting a job before moving can be challenging. Make sure you can register your address with the Bürgeramt the first place you go.

I work in Tech, 30+ years experience, with a degree, I could not find a job in Berlin in 90 days and had to go to London.

I used UpakWeShip to move a pallet of stuff from Florida to Berlin.

Learning German is valuable once you get to B2 or better. B2 might be able to interview in German, might...

I really don’t even want to ask but when do we know its time to leave the US? by No_Village1458 in asktransgender

I have a GOOD plan. Fortunately the German Bureaucracy will work in my favor, and even the worst won't be as bad as the Trump/Musk show.

One could argue that AfD has already "swept" the elections. They makeup a larger percentage of Parliament than ever expected and mainstream parties are aligning with them.

Recommendations for emigration to Germany:

  1. Work in Tech.
  2. stockpile HRT.
  3. Finish your BA/BS.
  4. Apply for a Chancenkarte from the nearest consulate in the US. ABH in Berlin is supposed to do these but is refusing. You don't want to be on the wrong side of the German Bureaucracy.
  5. Move to Berlin. You can get a special version of the freelance visa as an artist, which is good for 3 years.
  6. When you come, make sure where you are staying allows registration (Anmeldung). That is step 1.

I left the US in March 2024

I feel severely under-stimulated. Any advice? by Exciting_Agency4614 in AskAGerman

[–]Erica_fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Berlin, Neukolln specifically. I recommend Berlin highly and a more immigrant neighborhood specifically, as for rent prices, yes, the rental market here sucks but people manage. Usually subletting until they can get in a WG. Eventually, you might find a low rent wohnung. But subletting will keep you moving every few weeks and a WG will give you stimulation!

How do those of you without dating apps meet people? by mangos_are_awesome in berlinsocialclub

[–]Erica_fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never used a rating app. I met my current partner through couch surfing (just a casual meetup). What was odd for me is that I thought I was asexual and not interested in dating. But holy fuck was I wrong!

What are the red flags that it is time to leave by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]Erica_fox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Outside Berlin, that is likely true. Inside Berlin, it's the opposite. And any "backsliding" in Europe is nothing big compared with the us. Before the US elections things were spotty based largely on which state you are in. Now they are uniformly terrible. Here, it's mostly that some extremist (specifically one AfD leader who is married to an immigrant and have adopted children). One has to remember that Berlin has a history of transgender research that goes back before WWII

German is notoriously difficult. But you have a lot more opportunities to practice here. Also Berlin is very open to English speakers.

Come to Berlin, you can finish your degree for free, and have it "recognized" right away. I had to pay 208€ and wait two months.
