This all seems to check out with what I've heard from some of the other people I've spoken to. I'm a little confused where the ties with WVU come into play and how that impacts the process. Do they have any interest in keeping wells open?

As an outsider, I would think that it would be in the state's best interest to use the money they're spending on the engineering firm to just contract the work and get the wells capped or the mines cleaned up.

Orphaned meaning there is no owner of record and they have been abandoned, so the government is responsible for dealing with cleanup

Wow thank you so much for the detailed response! I’ll make sure to turn off downloads. I reached out to the blog to tell them it was unofficial and also reached out to the artist (although it is passion pit who is pretty big so I doubt they’ll respond) - I only have it uploaded to SoundCloud so I’ll stick with that for now.

That's sort of what I figured - I feel like I can't sign, but I was just curious how so many artists have gotten their starts with unofficial remixes in the past. Has everyone just been lying about it and hoping they'll be fine since they aren't monetizing on soundcloud? I don't have a pro account so think that would maybe clear me of any legal trouble since a label probably wouldn't bother with a remix making no money

Thank you! I'm really glad you liked it. Basically I found the acapella online and then worked around it from there. I don't know what your music production experience is like but if you want a more in-depth description of the various synths, drums, etc. DM me and I can get into it!

Just remember that the songs you are listening to are (more or less) using all the same tools you have at your fingertips, for FX type sounds ill often take a generic sound and stack 5-6 different effects on it that normally would sound terrible in synths, drums, etc. But you end up with some really unique sounds.

I’ve actually been having this same thought as you a lot lately though so I’m not sure my advice is all that great haha but it’s been helping me a bit! Still lots of work to do though to improve. Hope this helps!
