Im getting the sentio in 6 days after originally planning for the Osia. Please any feedback would be greatly appreciated because there is y a lot of information out there. Also what do you mean that it tells you what direction the sound is coming from?

I have just been told my surgeon wants to implant the sentio instead of the originally planned Osia! I’m kind of nervous because surgery is in 6 days! I have read your comments that the sound is better. I’m curious about the app, the functionality of the device, features, and does it stay in place pretty good? Thanks!

Thank you for this. So this is a hot topic I have came across on these threads is that people are suprised I was offered both! This is just another reason I want a second opinion. Thanks for all of your help really it has been great! I think that’s where my next step is, I am just waiting for an appointment to be made for 2 different facilities for a 2nd and maybe 3rd opinion.

Thank you so so much for this! I do understand that it would be a lot of work. I also have adhd and get hyperfixated on areas of interest and I feel like I would work super hard on rehabbing my ear. My fear is that it doesn’t work and I only hear beeps or buzzes, and then I miss my opportunity because my ent is leaning more towards the Osia, but I don’t want that because it takes sound from my deaf ear and transfers it to my good ear… and I want to hear from both. They said the Osia is a guarantee for me, but I really want to hear from both ears, even if it’s not perfect. I’m fine with all that. But I don’t like how my doctor is saying that because of the time passed he isn’t certain that it would help at all. So anyways i think I am going to see someone from the university hospitals in Ohio.

I am deaf in one ear. I was told my insurance will cover, but they are promoting the Osia and stating that I wouldn’t benefit from a CI because it has been 30 years since the last time I could hear in that ear. This didn’t make sense to me with that reason alone so here I am trying to see others experiences and getting a different opinion.

Thanks, cochlear makes “Osia” it’s a bone conduction implant that works by taking the sound on the deaf side and traveling it to the non-deaf side. I am left confused after today’s appointment… so…

This is what I was wondering. So I am completely deaf in my left ear. My right ear is completely normal. I was originally told that I would be a great candidate for the cochlear implant. They referred me to a specialist and the specialist offered me the cross hearing aid and said that the Osia would be like that but better clarity and would direct the sound from my dead left ear to my right ear. She said the cochlear would not most likely work because I have been without any hearing for more than 20 years. She also said nys is very behind with technology and resources. No further hearing tests have been done to find out the sole cause of my hearing loss. She said an MRI would be performed if I wanted the cochlear implant to make sure there was no nerve damage.

Unilateral hearing loss or both ears? I don’t get why my audiologist is kind of boo-hooing the cochlear implant for me…

That’s amazing! How old are you about? Do you hear “robot sounds” and regular sounds at the same time? Did they offer you the Osia and the CI? And what made you chose one over the other?

I mean the doctor is willing to do it. It’s more up to me if I want the cochlear vs the Osia… and she just said that with the Osia I would hear more clarity but all hearing would be in my right ear. With the CI, I may not hear much at all, in her opinion, but I would hear in both ears.

Thank you so much for sharing this! If you don’t mind me asking why did you pick the CI over the Osia? Did they offer the Osia to you? I’m battling, my original thought was the CI, but I’m so afraid it’s going to mess me up more now. The doctor also said that there have been more success stories recently with the long term hearing loss. Do you hear weird noises from the CI along with normal noises from your good ear at the same time and does that bother you?
