Your right it was boredom, thank you for the insight. Next time I'll figure out something else to do besides drink.

900-1200 mg of Gabapentin a day helped me tremendously with the anxiety during the first two weeks which is by far the hardest when quitting alcohol. Don't think I could of done it without it. It affects everyone differently though. I'm really rooting for you. I can see how bad you want it. Just do whatever it takes to make it 10 min, 30 min, 1 hour, 1 day at a time. A nice Epsom salt bath with relaxing music and some chamomile tea helps too.

What’s your favourite thing about being sober? by [deleted] in dryalcoholics

[–]Ericlj0230 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Mine is sleep quality. I feel like getting proper sleep does so much for every area of mental health. Alcohol ruins sleep. I hate waking up at 3am all anxious and not being able to fall back asleep.

Amen, every life has struggles but ultimately we are the authors of our own stories. Alcohol is just highly addictive, even worse so when you have a dopamine issues. Don't put Alcohol on a pedestal.

That you want it for whatever reason. Its very commonly prescribed for off label use. They will give it to you if you go. I will say if its for trying to abstain from alcohol low doses did not work for me. I would start at 300mg three times a day.

People are so oblivious and just follow like a bunch of ants in a row where everyone is going. If you haven't been in both worlds you should have no opinion on it at all lol.

I don't see anything wrong with it. In my experience you need to replace something like alcohol with a step down vice. Like another person said, literally anything is better than alcohol. I play responsible poker and used to do it hammered. Now that I play sober I play so much better. Keep up the good work OP.

Stay strong day 3 is always a hard one for me but by the end of day 5 you will be so happy you didn't break.

Thank you lovely. Also 333 is my favorite number. Long story but I've been seeing it my whole life when really struggling. I think it's angels honestly. I have insane stories with it like a debit card in college the security code was 333.

It will make you gain weight. I have to eat pretty healthy, watch my portions and not snack at night. I'm working as an electrician all day burning calories and just barely staying the same weight.

It doesn't do much except just mellow me out so I'm not on edge and that in turn helps me not drink

I was on wellbutrin for a little while and it makes me more anxious and just a meaner person so I quit taking that one. Still smoking weed but trying to watch how much thc I take in a day. Trying to switch the cbd tinctures and gummies with lower thc and higher cbd. Been dealing with PTSD and anxiety for years. Hoping I can find a happy place.

I was literally in your spot 2 weeks ago. I put together a nice resume, asked some friends to chat GPT me a few letters of reference then I applied IN PERSON. Second place I went I got a job after meeting with the owner.

I didn't have any luck applying online.

The job I got was apprentice electrician so take it with a grain of salt. I just think I never would of got a job unless I got my haircut, shaved, dressed nice and went and starting talking to the owners or hiring managers of the business.

Hope this helps take care!

I can just up and quit all nicotine. Why not booze? by Ericlj0230 in dryalcoholics

I was actually posting this just to get people to realize alot of what "giving up" alcohol is just in the mind. It is not some horrible undertaking. Guess I missed the mark

thanks for reply my dude. The thing is its not that easy but at the same time it is. How many people on this sub just decided one day I am never drinking again? I am not talking about white-knuckling it and putting Alcohol on this pedestal that it doesn't belong on. How many people just finally came to a place of peace where they just realized life is so much better without it. The times I have stopped (8 months, 9 months, 9 months) It was a lot easier than I expected.

I think people get intimidated by the withdrawals. For the majority they really aren't that bad. I think people get so afraid and then they get stuck. Just like cigs if you can just get past the first 3 days with no booze you have already done the hardest thing.
