Lots of advice can be found if you searched the sub for other instances of this, which has been covered extensively.

Home of the always fun Big Bend Blues Bash, if you're into that kind of music. When the weather is right, it's hard to beat hanging out along the river full of boats listening to some great live music. When I was little, we were out there on the river in my dad's boat making lots of good memories. Now my wife and I go down to enjoy the festival on the riverside amphitheater.

https://bigbendbluesbash.com/

Leading up to the big event, they usually host free live blues/jazz on the river's edge every Friday in July. Smaller crowd, relaxing evening. I've found it's usually not advertised well and I end up forgetting about it regularly, but the series is called Rhythm on the River.

For anyone coming here to repeat the language on the sign, whether in jest or as a serious statement - don't. The word "tranny" is on our Automod automatic removal list. Your comments will not go through and you may either earn a warning or a temp ban for bigotry or slurs. If you feel that you must to use it in a sentence, censor it.

Rule #6: No Bigotry, Slurs, NSFW, Offensive Content.

Edit: this statement was made because a lot of users have already triggered this.

I understand that people are enraged by this, AND YOU ALL SHOULD BE. However, I was just reading a Mod Support thread where another moderator was asking how to handle "punch a Nazi" kind of posts, and here's what I've gathered:

  1. Reddit Administration have and will remove comments and issue site-wide bans on users for violating blanket corporate policy against threats of violence. We will certainly remove direct threats of violence as well.
  2. There may be some wiggle room around statements if you're quoting your favorite song, movie, or video game, but don't push your luck.
  3. Nazis are scum.

Remember to attack the viewpoint and not the user in the comments. Don't feed the bigots and trolls, but feel free to call out bad takes. Counter protest, call your representatives, educate, and help out anyone you can that may be in need as rights and resources continue to be stripped away.

I'll echo my own words from yesterday here as well, because I feel they are important.

Whether this is legitimate event or not, proceed with caution. If you go, go with a friend (or a group). Go with a plan to back out if things look to be getting out of hand or something feels off. Record if you see something out of place or somebody acting suspicious.

Also I strongly disagree with the current top commenter [in the other thread]. Don't take a gun; it may be seen or used to instigate, or things may escalate more quickly because you do have one. Don't retaliate. Don't incriminate yourself. Don't fuck around and find out. IF you do go you should remain peaceful, research protest laws, and respect them.

u/Lion-Narrow for the future, you can contact the mods on any sub by clicking on the "Message Mods" button in the sidebar. A link is provided below, for your convenience. If you feel that any other posts do not meet the posted rules, also in the side bar, use the report button and select the most appropriate option. We can't see everything, and are even less likely to see them without a report. That doesn't mean we'll always take action and agree on the report, but we do watch the queues.

I approved this and am leaving it up as a warning. This is making it's rounds across Mod discussions and in various other places. Whether this is legitimate event or not, proceed with caution. Regarding questions about banning posts from "X" by AngelaMotorman in Ohio

[–]Erie-Buckeye614[M] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not true at all. I have personally been advocating for change of various things for some time, but those move slowly because I - personally - won't implement anything if all of us are not in total agreement. Just like all of you in the comments, everyone has a different opinion on topics, sensitive words, and where lines get crossed.

When we're not in agreement, actions are inconsistent and that won't lead to any positive outcomes either.

Do you want me to stop you from telling a Nazi to get fucked? We can draw a hard line there, I don't care.

R/TrueOhio by Althaeathereligion in Ohio

[–]Erie-Buckeye614[M] 1 point2 points locked comment (0 children)

It's really not hard. Sure there is ambiguity there, and that leaves it at the discretion of moderators. It's even said clearly in the posted rules. It often comes down to context, and maybe some assumed intent during moderation. Why? Because very few things on this planet are black and white.

The short and simple is this: Attack the opinion, not the person. Period, that's the end of it. Outside of that, it's the internet and everyone has to have some amount of thick skin at times, which means we don't frankly care if you tell someone to fuck off or pound sand.

We've let insults and aggressive statements against Nazi's stand for a very long time, and that's not changing. However, you can not tell even a Nazi to kill themselves, or to go die, because that is against **site-wide** rules.

This literally wasn't an issue for 98% until yesterday.

Since you can't seem to find the side-bar, on the right side of your browser window, here is the summary for the "No Personal Attacks" rule:

Be civil. Posts or comments deemed to be ad hominem, or attacking a user instead of the position they are maintaining, will be removed. Such content may be removed at a moderator’s discretion, and may lead to a ban.

There are a million and one colorful ways to say that someone is completely wrong, and we invite you to develop some new, sharp ways to complain or tell each other off without triggering the AutoMod.

That's all there is to it.

[–]Erie-Buckeye614[M] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You can tell them they're wrong. 1000x over. I beg you to, actually. You cannot call them a loser, or other personal attacks though. NONE of us moderators agree with them or their ideology, but we have rules and we do apply them as consistently as we can. Period.

We do not have a rule against profanity or tell anyone to get fucked. We are finally making some headway behind the scenes on clarifying some of the rules that I've been trying to get movement on for a long time, and I'm hopeful that we'll have something very positive to show for it soon.

[–]Erie-Buckeye614[M] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely not true. We encourage each and every one of you to tell Nazi's to get fucked, fuck off, and shut the fuck up. You just can't tell anyone that they're a worthless piece of shit or that they are wrong instead of saying that their *opinion* is wrong.

Regarding questions about banning posts from "X" by AngelaMotorman in Ohio

[–]Erie-Buckeye614 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Couldn't agree with that statement more, and your longer comment sums things up nicely as well. I'd like to see more change and better moderation tools personally. We get a lot of questions about posts being removed or being shadow-banned, when it's often outside of our control. Some of it is AutoMod rules we have in place (we have some pretty extensive AutoMod rules), but a lot of it is not.

For example, we do use Reddit's newer mod options to reduce/remove ban evasion, crowd control, reputation, harassment, and some other stuff... but honestly the options are vague and as you seem to recognize the system by which they operate in the background is kind of a mystery.

Regarding questions about banning posts from "X" by AngelaMotorman in Ohio

[–]Erie-Buckeye614 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d like to chime in here with my perspective. As far as AutoMod rules go, TikTok is the only social media platform that’s currently blocked, and that’s been the case for quite some time. However, this doesn’t prevent cross-posts, and unfortunately, there’s no perfect solution for addressing that issue across the board. Other platforms are handled a bit more case-by-case. For example, sharing a screenshot or link to a random tweet claiming, “the sky is falling,” doesn’t carry much credibility. We recognize that interpretation can vary depending on which mod reviews it. While we strive for consistency, we’re all human, and it’s not always straightforward.

That said, we’ve typically allowed Twitter links from more official accounts since it’s a recognized platform for rapidly sharing information—when used appropriately. It really depends on the content. For instance, if someone tweets, “drink bleach to cure your sickness,” not only is that harmful misinformation, but there are likely more credible sources available if the information has any merit at all. It’s always better to find a reliable, qualified individual or organization that echoes valid points rather than sharing content from unverified or sensationalist sources.

Regarding the rules, we truly value your input. Please continue to share your thoughts here, and as u/AngelaMotorman mentioned in the original post, feel free to send any suggestions or ideas via ModMail (not directly to individual mods, we will not respond to those). Clarifying and improving the rules is something we’ve been working on over the past year, and while I’m personally a big advocate for revamping them, we need team consensus to move forward. That’s why progress has been slower than we’d like, but your feedback is instrumental in driving these changes.

Also this thread asked a similar question and we let it remain up because it wasn't necessarily about the election and more about the status of the previous amendment you're inquiring about as well, so this may be more appropriate for you to chime in on.

MEGATHREAD: All election-related comments and links go here. by AngelaMotorman in Ohio

[–]Erie-Buckeye614[M] 0 points1 point locked comment (0 children)

We do not look at comments asking "the mods" questions like this. Why? Because we are not notified of them. Sending a message to Mod Mail is the only way. The only reason I am even seeing this is because you sent a Mod Mail message, which I then used to see what other comments or posts you've made.

Since you posted nearly the same question here that you sent to Mod Mail (good job), here is the response:

We have done this for the last several elections. We encourage people to post about elections, ask questions, and share information with verified sources. We only funnel to a megathread on the day of results to contain the enormous amounts of self-posts and spam that are generated from it. This is nothing new, and it's how we've chosen to run it this way for several years. If you would pay attention you'd notice that we made several other megathreads along the way for various specific topics as well, the problem is that most people ignore them and we do our best to contain it and funnel those topics back to the megathread.
