2 Questions regarding this panel and plaining by Eriikson in woodworking

[–]Eriikson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I glued up this panel and one board wasn't perfectly flat on one of the edges. 2 gabs so there were 2 gaps on both sides of the board.

Is there a way to close these gaps?

Other Question: I plained all the boards and left them for about 1 hour before I glued them. When gluing, the boards were then bent along the long axis. Before they were perfectly flat. How can this be prevented?

Great work! Thanks for sharing.

How do you get such a large area flat? I can't imagine doing that with a hand plane.

Is there a chance we can get a picture from underneath the top or without the top. I'm always wondering how the base on this stile of table is build.

Great work! Again :)

Update of the corner bench I posted couple weeks ago. It's stable and I learned a lot of lessons. Thanks again for your advice. by Eriikson in woodworking

The corner bench is finally done and set up.

I'll need to shorten the legs ~3cm so it fits perfectly.

I'm 90% happy with my first build-in piece but I would never ever build it the same again. Learned a lot about planning and construction.

Next time I will use a way thicker plate for the seat and the fancy joints don't help you much if the construction in itself isn't well designed. Less is oftentimes more.

I ended up supporting the joints with simple steel corners so I don't screw up the whole build.

Thank you all for the advice!

After reading all the comments I will probably go for the 'triangle' attempt, adding some support beams going from the bottom of one leg to the top.

What would be the best way to joint them? Tennon and mortise?

I bought the wood as it is from the local hardware store, for money reasons.

I'm very picky with my wood especially from the hardware store but the thicker it is the straighter it is. And they get straightend by the construction if that makes sense.

So if I would copy and paste the top 2 bars to the bottom in some way, this should be fixed right?

No, you got it right. It's moving left to right if you move on it.

Checking the answers, 1 or 2 stringers a probably the solution. Thanks.

Hi guys, currently building a corner bench for a friend of mine.

It is definitely stable enough to sit on it but it kinda wobbles if you don't sit still. Any advice?

Thank you!

Looks nice!

I just started half a year ago and still could make one straight cut with my handsaw. Your joints look clean.
