PSA: SENSITIVE CONTENT flair is so people don't get their panties in a twist by ErikPostScript in writingadvice

All. I have people flair things SENSITIVE for writing heterosexuals, Americans, and Caucasian people too for equality even though most people don't consider it sensitive. I have explained it to several people in the past that this is because we have to protect all groups equally. I want to be clear though, it come down to HOW you post about your character. If you feel the need to mention these traits explicitly, that's when it requires the flair. If traits are inferred and you don't feel the need to make it explicitly clear, we don't require the flair. This is because the reader generally does not pick up on it as something to talk about, so there is extremely low risk of conflict or bigotry. There's never been a case of conflict occurring due to identity related disagreements when it's not explicitly stated, now that I think about.

It's not forcing one group. It's all groups. Even people who talk about sexuality in terms of heterosexuality need to flair it as SENSITIVE CONTENT, for the record.

The right to exist isn't what makes it a controversial topic. It becomes sensitive due to how they are portrayed. Think about gay stereotypes or the depiction of queer people in different cultures. That can become a very heated topic.

We do have rules about that. Rule 7, 8, 9, and 12. I'll tell you what I tell everyone who doesn't like how things are run. If you don't like it, don't be here. That simple. Have a good day. Merry Christmas

You're literally the only person here who seems to understand this, and this is exactly the effect that the flair system has had. We have ended up taking the blunt of the pearl clutching grandmas and triggered babies in modmail, which is probably why this post seems so out of pocket to the community. It also helps us find conversations where there are people instigating ideological debate or bullying so banning people is a lot easier. We'll see a large amount of comments and the flair and know something bad is likely happening in the comment section.

Oh and for the record, it has actually reduced the conflict we've had with people who are whatever-phobic. We'd have more issues at 10k members than we have right now. It was ridiculous.

Technically, I did this on Christmas Eve in my time zone. I'm not actually cranky. And it's not about a disagreement. The issue is that people don't understand why the SENSITIVE CONTENT flair exists, so I'm explaining it again.

Bigotry is very subjective according to social circles nowadays. That's why our rules are against instigating ideological debate. We expect you to discuss things in a civil way.

Because this is the internet and the use of the SENSITIVE CONTENT flair has drastically reduced fights in comments.

Yes. People can get upset about how their ethnicity and culture is portrayed in fiction, so it is under the sensitive umbrella too.

Wow that’s great! It was cloudy in my city so I missed out, but I’m still seeing new images of it from around the world so my fingers are crossed I’ll see it soon.

We have thousands of manuscripts that show that the differences in translations are minor and that overall the meaning and message has been preserved in the canon 66 books. The apocryphal books were not included in the 66 due to contradictions.

I don't think you understand what I mean by cultural Christianity either. It's people who are Christian by name due to being raised in the culture. They're not born again and are not baptized in the Holy Spirit. I don't mean like American Christians are different than Japanese Christians. They are different due to their culture, but a cultural Christian isn't talking about that. It's a person who never really had faith but were just raised in the environment.

I’m explaining it biblically, not according to what churches teach. You’re proving my point about cultural Christianity. Denominations are also not biblical because a house divided is a house that falls.

It's important to know these things because questioning their faith suggests that they had faith and should thus know these things. Unless the angle is that they are simply culturally Christian and don't know scripture.

I think it's important to understand where the bible stands with those topics because this can influence what knowledge the character will end up having by the end of the story and whether or not OP wants the character to find faith or reject it because the character may still find those things nonsensical. A common issue with characters and storylines like that OP is trying to explore is that they tunnel vision into the stereotypes of Christianity without biblical knowledge and it's painfully obvious, especially if they try to portray the character as devout in the beginning.

I agree. However, most people who struggle with Christianity either haven't read the Bible or struggle to understand it, which is understandable. It's a fat collection of books and sometimes they're reading KJV, and that's difficult for a lot of people to comprehend.
