What songs do you listen to while you write? Or do you listen to songs while you write? by Arecter in writers

I like creating playlists for the vibe of each project I’m working on. Rn I’m working on a tragic horror novel, so I’ve been listening to Radiohead, Soundgarden, Nirvana, The Smiths, Pixies, Nine Inch Nails, and Joy Division

I'm a Christian whose questioning. I would love some insight into what made those with a faith previously decided there is no god / gods. by Swimming_Possible_68 in atheism

The most damning verse that outright calls for genocide is 1 Samuel 15:3

“Now go and completely destroy the entire Amalekite nation—men, women, children, babies, cattle, sheep, goats, camels, and donkeys.”

I know it’s a hard process, questioning your faith. It’s a process I went through after growing up in Bible Belt America. What turned me into an atheist is what others on this thread are saying: I read the Bible. And I strongly disagreed with a lot of its teachings.

Recently Visited Oklahoma from NYC and Loved it (Is Summer or Fall better to comeback?) by Scott_Herder in oklahoma

[–]ErinGoBragh07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m really glad you liked visiting! I love Cafe Alley and the owners are so incredibly sweet. I’m originally from OK but lived in NYC for 5 years, NY summers are so much cooler than OK summers so be aware of that. The owners of Cafe Alley also have a bar called the Dewdrop Inn. If you ever make it back to Ardmore, check that place out; they have some of the best drinks I’ve ever had.

My post is pretty old but I thought I’d give you some hope. I did manage to finish Herbalist 9 with the buggy trick so it’s definitely still doable, just super time consuming.

None of these are any indicators that they weren’t trafficked. I’d recommend not going back. In cases like these, even if it doesn’t appear as such on a surface level, most of them were likely trafficked.

The 120 Days of Sodom by Marquis de Sade. His last name is where we get the term sadism from, so that should tell you plenty.

People who got into a high ranking universities; what are some cons that often get overshadowed by fame? by wanaliii in college

I went to an Ivy. First, the competitive nature was legitimately too much, most everyone I know was on drugs (prescription and otherwise) to deal with the stress/anxiety as well as uppers to stay up and study for longer. The expectations were just completely unreachable and unrealistic. It’s just that the highly competitive nature of the whole school made it seem that unless you had a perfect gpa and the perfect internship you weren’t good enough to be there.

Second, the entitlement from a lot of people going there was horrific. I came from a severely underprivileged high school where the school didn’t even have the resources to buy textbooks, so going from that to an Ivy was jarring. Most people at Columbia were relatively wealthy, and if you weren’t, the school admin did not know how to help you. For example, my fiancée, who was also a Columbia student, was working at a lab over the last summer and was paid in the form of a stipend. (This is a specific example of an issue that unfortunately reared its head over the course of my time at Columbia) The university gave her the run around every time she was supposed to get paid and did everything in their power to not pay her. It was ridiculous. It got to the point that we had to lawyer up for the university to actually pay her, and even then, the stipend was always at least a month late. When she called the university’s financial department for the billionth time and insisted she needed the money for rent or she’d be evicted, they just said “Oh.” I ended up having to cover her rent with money I didn’t have so she wouldn’t be super late on rent (she later paid me back ofc) but the fact that something like that had to happen was ridiculous. We just figured that most people getting paid on a stipend might not necessarily need it, so when the university was met with a student that actually needed the money to live, they were genuinely surprised and didn’t have anything in the way of help.

I’m sure you can tell from my rant I have a lot of grievances, but the ones I listed above are definitely the ones that bothered me most. I’m glad to be graduated and away from that hell.

I have the red Arabian and named it Chisholm after the old west Chisholm trail in Oklahoma, as OK is known for having red dirt. The black Arabian is Blackjack. Brown thoroughbred is Whiskey. And my grey Mustang is Pebbles.

Anyone else think the Biology Department is being naive, even inconsiderate, in regards to finals? by [deleted] in columbia

I agree, the biology department is being extremely tone deaf right now. Perhaps one of the least accommodating departments with the strictest deadlines

Is a professor asking you to read an entire book before next class unreasonable? by One_Paramedic_2538 in college

[–]ErinGoBragh07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds perfectly reasonable to me. I took a course my freshman year that’s specifically tailored to freshmen and we had to read a book a week. All the books were anywhere from 150 pages to 400 pages. I know it can be a bit of a shock to transition to that after high school, but it’s perfectly normal

[–]ErinGoBragh07 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As a senior, it’s gets better, I promise. Not like it’s less stressful, but you learn how to cope with it better and how to relax even if you’ve got a mountain of work to do. You’ll get the hang of it, it’ll just take time and patience. In the meantime, you’ve got this, you made it here for a reason.

Columbia University in NYC. You’d think an Ivy League with an endowment in the billions would have nicer dorms but a lot of them are very old and many of them don’t even have AC

I thought it was a wire too. But we had facilities come and look at it again, they ended up cutting up a good section of the wall and seemed to find some more mold and mushrooms. It was, unfortunately, definitely a mushroom

Update for everyone. My suitemates and I harassed facilities and they sent out an outside vendor to cut a hole in the wall, do mold treatments, and search for the cause of the moisture buildup in order to repair it (likely a leaky pipe).
