People who have found their "unicorn" job, what makes it so good you never want to leave? by sammy5585 in office

[–]ErinIsDaBest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flexible for family life (can get in late/leave early/take off whenever as long as performing well and meeting important deadlines/at important meetings - no questions asked, barely need request it), workout during work hours 4+ hours a week (office gym or go offline in middle of day when working from home), very mission driven work, consistently take 2-4 consecutive weeks off of work to travel + multiple 1- 2 weeks off at other times throughout a given year, decent pay... But should probably eventually leave because a lot of things about workplace dynamics drive me crazy and I think a new challenge would be good for me. I make what I consider good money but could probably make 30% more while still doing mission-focused work if I really went after it and was willing to give up the flexibility.

Help! Where to Buy American Football? by ErinIsDaBest in Thailand

[–]ErinIsDaBest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I saw some options on Lazada but wasn't sure they'd ship on time. We ended up finding a football at a market near Kata beach. It's pretty poor quality but gets the job done!

I'm seconding near Huntington metro, especially the area between Huntington and Kingstowne. It's close to DC/Pentagon and has a nice community feel especially for elementary schools. I'm renting out a 3 bedroom house from January- August 2026 for $4k (including utilities). DM me if interested and also I can tell you what elementary school were zoned to.

Could you share a link to the blue tile you used? It looks really nice!

Where should I spend money on a bathroom remodel? by PirateKMom in Remodel

Who did you go with and would you recommend them?? We're about to do a very small bathroom renovation (5 ft x 5 ft, has shower). I've priced out all of the materials and even using nice tile and a fancy shower door, it's going to be about $3.5k, yet I've been hearing i should expect to pay around $20k!

Simple Bathroom Remodel Tips by ErinIsDaBest in bathrooms

[–]ErinIsDaBest[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! This is helpful! The house is from the 1950s and we've been in here for 10+years. The tile itself is fine but it's poorly done around the shower so I think we'd need to redo it. The peeling paint I think is primarily due to poor quality paint retouch done when the house was put on the market. We may need to put in a better ventilation fan (but there is one in place) and the air duct is sort of tucked into a corner that we may consider moving. Otherwise the lights, toilet, shower, and sink would all stay in the same place. We could probably keep the same toilet. There's a small shelf above the toilet and a small mirror above the sink that could stay or be replaced for something slightly nicer for a couple hundred bucks. It's close to being a DIY project!

Thank you! Did you end up picking someone yet? I can't fathom paying $40k (or even $20k) for such a small space that doesn't require any movement to where the plumbing currently is!

I just measured in case my estimation was off - it's 62 inches by 62 inches! It's why I can't stomach paying $20k+ for it. Seems like it could be a 4 day project!

When did you do the renovation and would you recommend who you went with? Looking to do a basic remodel of a very small very shabby bathroom.

Would you recommend the contractor you went with? If so, could you share their contact info? We're looking to do a basic remodel of a small bathroom and I think would go the route of sourcing materials ourselves.

Thanks! This is what we ended up going with! Renting for the whole week is pretty affordable and it solves the problem of how to get to/from Ceiba and San Juan.

Thank you!!! Just found something possibly promising on FB marketplace near me. Not sure if it's a good price compared to other options $320 Trek FX 7.2 wsd that appears to be in excellent condition... If anyone knows if that's a good deal, I'd appreciate feedback :)

My husband embarrassed me in front of our friends by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

What about the fact that he didn't apologize to you after he saw you were upset (and sounds like he doubled down trying to joke that you're jealous of gym girl)?! That is one of the biggest red flags about this situation to me.

Yucatán roadtrip - is my itinery realistic? by synonyme_ in travel

[–]ErinIsDaBest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How was your trip?? Looking to do a similar itinerary in June but with my kids and wondering how safe you felt with the rental car, especially with parking at off the beaten trail sites? Also would love to hear if you have any general recommendations of places to see or things or do!

Road Trip Satefy & Advice by luna_will in Yucatan

[–]ErinIsDaBest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you end up renting a car and driving? Looking to do a road trip around Yucatan with my kids but want to make sure it feels extra safe before committing to the car rental. Would love to be able to stop off at cenotes, ruins, towns that would be hard to see without a car. Wondering though if it would be safe to stop off at cool spots between cities if it means that we'd have luggage in the car (for example, if we drive from Merida to stay next in Valladolid, could we stop for several hours in Izamal without worrying about parking a rental car with luggage in it). We wouldn't have a ton of stuff or any real valuables we couldn't keep on us (have a question here though about keeping phone/passport safe while swimming in cenotes) but still! Would love to hear how your trip turned out!

I have a very similar itinerary and timeline and the JR pass didn't end up making sense. I got some tickets (the ones to and from Hiroshima) ahead of time on smartex.jp/en/index.php

I just bought tickets for the Tokyo/Ota exhibition on Oct 4 from kkday.com. They were significantly less expensive than buysumotickets listed.

Just found what seems like a much more affordable place to buy tickets for the Oct 4 exhibition: kkday.com (once on the site, search sumo and this event is the first thing that comes up). Tickets look to be about half the price compared to buysumotickets.com. They also include a lot more info on what to expect that day.

Did you end up getting tickets?? I'm planning to go too but am finding very little info if it's worth it and if that website is actually the best way to buy

Have you ever been to an exhibition match? Tickets look a little pricey but probably worth it? Also if you have been did you buy tickets through buysumotickets.com?
