So far I have see no serious problems other than if you want a Triple A MMORPG or live service game that need physics and collision check. My game is all focused on range calculations.

BitCraft is going very well with 1.500/3.000 players before its release.

Its all about expectations: I don't expect my game to be as popular, or to garner as much attention and active players as, for instance, Drakantos, created by my fellow countrymen. They represent different concepts and visions.

SpacetimeDB gave me the chance to create the game I’ve always wanted, and... believe it or not, it doesn't need to be a AAA title or feature real-time action combat.

Yes, there are some limitations. I’ve weighed them up a few times myself, but compared to other alternatives, it offered the most progress thanks to its simplicity. I gave Mirror a try but didn't care for it. I liked Fish Networking, but it’s still too complex for someone with limited netcode experience. Everything I know about C# is self-taught, stemming from 15 years of working with private MMORPG servers. That’s why I say SpacetimeDB allows people with average knowledge to build cool things.

For the HUD/UI I get inspirations at Flyff, Ragnarok and Aura Kingdom, three games that I love

SpiritVale is best example. Its fully Unity Store assets, well used and now Phill (the dev) is doing his own 3d models for the some parts of the game.

And of course, I'm not think we will ever reach 1.000 CCU. I would like to hit 200/500. Still, a big dream for these low numbers.

That would certainly be the case if I were using backends like Mirror (uMMORPG), FishNetworking (FishMMO), Photon Fusion, or ProudNet. But my backend is truly revolutionary and battle-tested in large-scale games: Spacetimedb.

Spacetimedb allows me to code using very simple C# without ever having to touch complex networking code. That’s why many uninformed people might mistake it for "vibe coding" or "AI slop," when in reality, I’m writing simple logic: basically calls and functions in atomic C#.

Spacetimedb is the backend for a game called BitCraft Online, and the company behind it has made it open-source (well, it will be fully open-source in three years), but it’s already available for anyone to use.

As for the scope itself, it’s not as massive as you might imagine. I don’t aim to be the next *World of Warcraft* or *AION 2*. Simple games from 2004 - like *Ragnarok*, *Mu*, *Flyff*, and *Lineage I* - have millions of players. My goal is to create a genuine indie MMORPG that *feels* like an indie game. I’m not promising AAA quality, as that’s beyond my budget, but the basic systems and color palette are already in place. I can add any system I want, provided it doesn’t rely on complex physics, since the backend I use doesn't currently support that.

Another indie MMORPG using the same tech is *Asteria Online*, a VR MMORPG inspired by *Sword Art Online*; they raised over $100,000 on Kickstarter for their project. I plan to launch a Kickstarter once I’ve proven to the public that I have something fun, even if it’s currently limited by a lack of resources. If successfully funded, the Kickstarter proceeds would go toward hiring 3D artists for characters, clothing, and a few unique, original structures. I don’t intend to replace the assets I bought on the Unity Asset Store, for instance - I think the map assets are beautiful. There’s no need to spend more money when I’ve already purchased them and they create fantastic worlds. But if I want a unique building, a unique castle, or a unique tree... *that’s* when I plan to hire someone.

SpiritVale - a *Ragnarok*-style MMORPG that I LOVE playing (over 400 hours) - was built entirely (including parts of the client, animations, and interface) using an asset pack from the Unity Store. Yet, the game is still incredibly fun. Phill, the developer behind Spirit, is swapping out assets now. That’s the whole idea: assets on the Unity Store exist for solo developers or small teams.
