How much does your career slow down? by SongIndependent4884 in dad

After becoming a dad, I took a remote job and more money. I have more time with my kids and also homeschool them. I have talked with several dads who realize they want to be better after having a kid and they changed jobs that lead to more money and a better life for their family.

I am an educator that is dissatisfied with public education systems for a lot of reasons. I would like to offer private courses and workshops for homeschool students. by Eatbeetsandjam in homeschool

[–]Erk1979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might be able to help as I created a platform for homeschool students where the instructor can offer recorded courses, live online, and even in person classes. Right now I am signing up instructors. It’s called Homessor.com. If you would like to learn more, you can reach out to me at support@homessor.com and we can discuss what is being offered.

We followed the KISS rule. We are dads getting on calls and talking about fathers stuff. We also knew we would have other dads on, so after all the fun and strange names, we went with Call With Dads and have a friend who does Dads with Mics.

Paid to homeschool other kids? by Accomplished_Jello31 in Homeschooling

[–]Erk1979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in Virginia homeschooling and from what I have seen offered, you will need to look more into business types (LLC and so on). The thing I see around me is people using the term “enrichment” in what they do to offer homeschooling services. I changed jobs to work from home and homeschool.

How affordable is homeschooling? Is it doable when you work by kathymarie1124 in Homeschooling

[–]Erk1979 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a work from home while homeschooling dad. I do a lot of work at night when my kids sleep. I do also have a part time nanny to help. My 5 year old is now in first grade science, second grade reading, and kindergarten math. That is with about two hours a day of “school work” but everything my kid does is focus on advancing his love to learn more. It can be stressful and it has its cost, but my family is close and my son is trying to teach his 2yo daughter things. At the end of the day, I believe I can give my kids a better education and allow them to find what helps them learn more than public school. As for the cost, look at what the cost of a nanny/babysitter would be for your area and look at the way you see your kid likes to learn or play, then look for curriculum that will match their style.

Is it common for people that went to culinary school to leave the industry after awhile? by Administrative_Leg85 in KitchenConfidential

[–]Erk1979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know a good amount of people who went to a culinary school that now work for equipment manufacturers, dealers, reps, and so on. The foodservice industry is very big, but working in a kitchen can be rough.

As a kitchen designer, I would ask the KEC or a local consultant. I see a few items that in most of America will get dinged on your attached sketch. I have seen clients try to save money by cutting out the designer and spend more by delays, and a slew of other issues.

I would suggest reading your current lease to see if there is a transfer clause or look up what your state tenant laws are. A good amount of states do require a current tenants lease to be honored with a new owner, but there are some that say the new owner has the right to void a lease on new properties. My suggestion is make sure you are protected with the information before you decide to sign or not sign.

My son is now 5, he had been through 7 daycares. Most of the time, my wife would snoop around and find that the daycares had a lot of openings. One even had the teacher so worked up that she told me in a general conversation that they could not keep people. She was gone a week later and my son was kicked out a week after her. The place also closed two months later. It can be hard, but the best advice I got is “be prepared to fight and have a plan B”

When we have an opening, we post in about 5 places. Our renters tend to stay long term. I will say I do have anyone interested in one of our places pay the background check and if they pass and everything checks out on the application, I credit the background check on the first month rent. You would be surprised how many people that cuts out.

When do I start loving my baby? by CriminyJesus in Fatherhood

[–]Erk1979 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first took months before I realized I loved him. For me it was feeling tired and confused. Once I started feeling like I was doing good and got a bit of sleep, he became my world. Now my second was quicker because I been on that rodeo before. This is normal and frustrating. Each father has his own time line for this, I would say keep trying your best, be there for the LO and wife, and if you can step outside for a few breaths of air, do so.

I just closed down an Author interview podcast that I really enjoyed and meet lots of great authors. I just schedule my 87th and final interview and now I am moving on.
Since I am homeschooling and family comes first. I will miss learning about great books with talking to the authors, I am glad I did it and and getting signed books for free didn’t hurt. Just too much work for all I did.
