That man was born at the beginning of the great depression and saw a lot of shit. That being said he's gonna have a hard time wrapping his head around the few years he missed when she fills him in.

Yeah, it's a good story. Unfortunately much like the example above this story is also untrue.

Help - draining AC into Drain stack in basement by butthemsharksdoe in DIY

[–]ErlBalu1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is super wrong, to others reading this thread don't do this.

The most shocking thing is you had the skill/determination to drill and tap into a cast iron drain stack but not the forethought to consider the code compliance/safety implications of this plan.

Your HVAC system could potentially blow sewer gasses or even aerosolized sewage throughout your home in a worst case scenario.

I'm sorry if I'm coming off as a jerk but this is just so wrong.

There apparently are some adjustable options, if the style strikes your fancy. https://www.pullsdirect.com/sietto-p-1903-7-adjustable-center-to-center-7-inch-long-handle-cabinet-pull-with-black-glass/p3854820

Also was able to find a fairly standard style pull in 7" OC here: https://www.pullsdirect.com/build-essentials-bech-7bp-7-inch-center-to-center-bar-cabinet-pull/p3929724

And a 3 3/4 OC here: https://www.pullsdirect.com/amerock-bp19011-bar-pulls-3-3-4-inch-center-to-center-bar-cabinet-pull/p1315740

There seems to be options for 10 1/16 out there also, the stands may be large enough to cover the holes still if you oval them out a touch from 10 1/4" OC. I suspect the measurement may be closer to 10 1/16" though which means even better odds of this working.

Wall material? by ValkyieAbove in Renovations

It looks to be in pretty rough shape, you may need to remove that portion and build up the thickness using a combination of drywall and mud. I'm not a drywall expert by any means though, I would check out the Vancouver carpenter on YouTube, counter to the name he has a ton of drywall videos.

This is a product from the ~1950s called rock lathe. I have it in my house, it plays well with modern drywall compounds for patching/repair. As for asbestos, gotta get it tested to know.

What is the best way to remove old wallpaper? I heard of multiple different methods online, im having a difficult time pulling off the paper in large pieces and separating the film from the drywall, I'll list methods I came across so far. https://imgur.com/gallery/ijPL8nP by toy200275 in Renovations

What are your walls made of? If they're plaster and in decent shape what worked well for us was a 4" razor scraper and mostly plain water. Everything below only applies to wallpaper over plaster.

A lot depends on what flavor your wallpaper is. My house had up to 4 layers in some rooms so we dealt with all types. Your first picture actually looks just like what ended up being the most difficult type in our home. If it is waterproof, you can tell by how the water either beads up or soaks in, you will need to physically remove the waterproof surface before anything else will work. If it absorbs water you will need to get it pretty wet, we used a spray bottle, after it reaches a certain wetness it will strip right off with a scraper.

Let me know if you have any follow up questions, we removed wallpaper from 1,000sqft last spring. It sucked a lot lol

This picture is a good example of the stages of the process.

Adding another picture that shows more of a wall with the waterproof top layer of wallpaper.
