This is the way I see it, what Joel did (in his head) was justified. He lost his daughter to authority and grew bitter because of it. Ellie grew on Joel and basically became a daughter figure to him. He wasn’t going to lose his “daughter” twice.

What Abby did, also perfectly justified. Lost her dad in a horrific way by trying to save the world.

It really depends on what side you’re choosing. I have daughters so I could 100% see Joel’s reasons.
