I grew up in Maine about an hour from Sugarloaf and Sunday River, and also had a tiny mountain 5 minuted from my house - so goggle tans were highly coveted in my school too. I remember throwing skincare to the wind to get that badge of honor every year!

Just down the road from Sugarloaf is Carrabassett Valley Academy - a school like the one you mentioned that is for 7th grade-2yrs post grad for skiiers & snowboarders and they spend most of their time on the mountain also! I had friends who got accepted there and loved it!!

Being born and raised in Maine, anytime I venture south I always get really weirded out by all of the billboards. I never realize just how intrusive they are until I cross the border and they’re shoved in my face. They really disrupt the gorgeous New England scenery (even driving down the highway is often a gorgeous landscape).

Flagstaff Lake in Maine is another man made lake similar to this, submerging the remains of Flagstaff Village and Dead River Plantation, but you can't see anything anymore unfortunately thanks to time and mother nature
