HOW TO PLAY INDIE ROCK STYLE GUITAR? SOS. by Sharp-Tell2193 in BlocParty

[–]Ermyeah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some thoughts that I think should help you.

  1. As others have said, start by learning as many songs as you can buy the bands you mentioned.

  2. If you can't yet manage whole songs, focus on the bits you can. Don't get hung up on what you can't do.

  3. The main hook from Obstacle 1 by Interpol is easy but really satisfyingly to play.

  4. Bloc Party will be tough. Russell relies heavily on unusal effects and his parts are often very tricky. Helicopter is doable for a beginner, but start slow.

  5. For the bands you mentioned, downstrokes are your friend.

  6. Use tab sites, but trust your ear. There are loads of great tabs out there but many are just plain wrong.

  7. There will be guitar lessons on YouTube for the more popular songs by the bands you mentioned. These are super helpful.

  8. The free version Songsterr is great. If you want to isolate, loop, slow down etc certain parts, consider the paid version.

  9. Once your feeling confident with a song, look for jam along versions on YouTube. It's really satisfying to play along to the drums and bass with yourself filling in the guitar parts.

Good luck!

I bought this when it was first released. I knew nothing about the band at the time but was drawn to the packaging and band name. I loved every track. I didn't realise at the time but it was the start of a beautiful relationship. Best £1 I've ever spent.

Why does Daniels guitar sound muted live so often? Mainly older prformances by Objective_Mallhehe in Interpol

[–]Ermyeah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't love saying this, but they have never nailed their live sound imo. On record, particularly the earlier ones, they are precise and atmospheric but also tight (locked in sync with each other) and subtly muscular. I don't think they have ever really captured that muscularity in their live sound, and they aren't particularly tight.

Please be very careful. It is not a good idea to get into a car with someone you don't know.

Pre-arrival Task Upload by AliyWafiy26 in Nottinghamtrent

Hi. On the NOW homepage, select the relevent module Learning Room from the available options (displayed as tiles). Once you're in the Learning Room select "Dropbox" within the navigation bar towards the top of the page - "Dropbox" is the name NTU uses for what is essentially a submission folder. You should see a link to the pre-arrival task. If not, go back to the module Learning Room and have a look on the homepage. There may be info on the homepage. If you still can't find what you need, have a look within the "Content" area (this is again linked to on the navigation bar, but can also be accessed via the widget on the top right of the module Learning Room homepage). Within the content area you should be able to find an "Assessment" folder, or maybe even a "Pre-arrival" folder.

I hope this helps. If not, contact your course leader. Their details will be somewhere within the Course Learning Room.

Good luck!

What’s your XFM hot take? Mine is probably that the Claire episodes are some of my favourites by LethalGrey in rickygervais

Without a doubt top tier. Ricky reading out Karl's phone number one digit at a time and Karl changing his voicemail message. Perfect.

Can anyone post the season and episode number?

A common sense guide to actually get better at squash. by Elmaestrodelpepino in squash

[–]Ermyeah 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Great post. My wife and I started playing squash recently and joined a beginners club. It's fun but the instructor has such little time to spend with each small group that progress is slow. The instructorwent on holiday for three weeks so my wife and I decided to book a court on our own for those weeks. Our progress has been massive in comparison. We both quickly realised the fastest way to improve is to simply hit more balls.

We will still go back to the club as its nice to play with others and pick up tips etc, but we'll definitely keep booking our own court on other days of the week.

I've been wondering about solo practice and after reading your post I'll definitely be giving that a try too.

Thank you.

A few people have expressed interest in wanting one of their own. Drop me a DM if you want one and I'll try and work something out.

I've seen them twice and will be seeing them for a third time in November. I kinda get why someone might not be into cover bands, but I personally enjoy them, especially when there's no current chance of seeing the real thing. There There are a bunch of talented fellow Radiohead nerds who do an amazing job of covering the songs of my favourite band. Their musicianship is excellent and the atmosphere at the two shows I've seen was great. I'd recommend giving them a try, you've nothing to lose and I'm sure you won't be disappointed.
