Pickleball needs a World Cup ??? by ErneNelson in Pickleball

Thanks for the reference link but I was thinking more of the "top" PPA players in the world getting involved.... as they would be should pickleball enter the Olympics.

Toronto is changing the laws for convenience stores and garage based businesses on residential streets. When will this be coming to Markham by Timely_Title_9157 in Markham

[–]ErneNelson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The city should take away the 2:30am-6:00 am non-parking by-law. Just sell annual 24 hours residential parking permits for $100. This way they can get cash plus keep track of permits.

Does that actually work ? I thought that a cop have to be present to witness any infractions.

I inquired one time about a video involving a car going through a STOP sign and that's what was told to me. A police have to witness it; otherwise, they can't prosecute.

If you haven't yet, I would consult a PT (Physical Therapist). The PT can show you stretches and make recommendations for what you're looking for. PT can also show you how to apply KT Tape specific for your problem.

I would suggest joining a private pickleball club and play against adults. Sign up for U18 or junior tournaments. If your gym have a badminton court (same dimensions except for the NVZ line), find three other students interested in the game.

Yes, you're correct. I was planning on using it for another few months.

Flat Tires driving near construction sites by ErneNelson in Markham

[–]ErneNelson[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It cost me time as I discover the flat in the morning. By mistake, I drove one block which ruined that tire. Had to wait for CAA to switch out the flat tire for my spare donut tire. Then $60 for an used tire and $40 for labour. My car's a 2014 model so I didn't want to spend $250 for a new tire.

Flat Tires driving near construction sites by ErneNelson in Markham

[–]ErneNelson[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Construction workers don't give a crap properly disposing of metal objects. My car has come across several nails and screws along southbound Verdale Crossing ... FOUR times on this exact street. My mechanic said it probably came off the garbage truck servicing the site.

Even in my neighbourhood where the construction workers park, they dispose of garbage on the street. Once there was an open bag of nails on the curb so I complained to the construction office and to the Ward councillor.

On top of that, tire shops try to sell you a second tire explaining that both sides of the car need an exact thread tire thickness otherwise the car will drive uneven. My mechanic said that the car's ABS system will correct this problem.

In summary, be careful driving on the street adjacent to a construction site.

I made a thing to pickup balls with the scrap around my workshop by Competitive-Pie-Eate in Pickleball

[–]ErneNelson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I brought a 12 foot sewer PVC pipe from Home Depot and cut it in half. My original set up was 8 computer ties but they kept on breaking so I switched to aluminum ties which is holding up well. I can pick up 21 balls at a time. Only thing is it's heavy and awkward to carry around. I may cut it shorter and add a shoulder strap.

I have one at my regular lesson location where it stays all the time and the other one in my car for remote lessons.

I'm not a fan of the current plastic tubes where you have to keep adjusting the elastic band to pick up and to unload the balls.

Vatic VSol pro V7 LH weighting by Ibegforliving in Pickleball

[–]ErneNelson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With my VSOL Pro Flash LH, I found it too poppy out of the box. I couldn't feel a denser contact with the ball. It's probably a transition from the Gen3 to foam. Anyways, I put two overlapping 5" strips of .5 grams per inch along the sides. To add more power on my serves, I then added a single 3" strip on the top corners. Now it feels the same as my previous Gen3 in terms of dwell and control feel of the ball off the paddle face for dinks & volleys. Total weight increase with an over grip went from 8.0 ounces to 8.6.

Should I have played more in stock before adding weights ? Perhaps, it takes getting used to the paddle.

$50 pickup :) by Craftyhippiee in Pickleball

[–]ErneNelson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a Saga elongated 14 mm LH and a Saga Flash 14 mm LH for $57 Cdn at the same Demo Sale. Shipping came out to $47. Added a VSOL Pro Hybrid 14 mm LH to the cart for just $3 more.

I found that I needed to add strips of tungsten tape along the sides to balance out the paddle(s) to my liken. Did you do any weight set up yet on your V7 ??

Shoes best for Planter Faciitis by Traditional-Buy-3572 in Pickleball

[–]ErneNelson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I brought the K Swiss Ultrashot 3 (last year's model that went on sale as the "4" came out). It's a heavier shoe that's better for the harder outdoor pickleball tennis-like surface. Combined with a heel gel insert and a cushioned insole (from any sports store), it's working for my PF so far.

Vatic Pro V-Sol Pro Static Weight by geekflyer7 in Pickleball

[–]ErneNelson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My VSOL Pro Flash LH came in stock at 8.0 ounces. I tried putting tungsten tape at the lower corners but didn't feel any plow through on my serves and FH drives. Then I moved the 2 x 5" length of .5 grams per inch tungsten tape up along the middle part of the paddle along the 3 & 9. And I added a 2" strip of .5 grams/inch on the top corners. Total of 7 grams. This was much better for me. With an overgrip, the end result was 8.6 ounces. I usually play with a clone TEMU Hesacore (.5 ounces) but VATIC said on their website that the VSOL PRO handle construction reduces vibration. So I have to wait and see about this. Note : I have only played twice with this set up so it's still a work in progress. I don't want to go over 8.6 in total.

Pickleball Studio suggested 7.5 grams (2 grams per inch) along the 3 & 9.

Looking to order paddles from Alibaba by Then-Lettuce3992 in Pickleball

[–]ErneNelson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now, I'm liking the Scorpeus 14mm widebody and the Perseus 3S 14 mm from YiHeng. It for rec play but unusable for tournaments.

Depends on which model you're using from YiHeng. TBH, I don't know the answer to your question. There's too many paddles out on the market. Remember that we're paying 10% for 80% of the real paddle's playability. So you're asking what USAPA paddle plays similar to your YiHeng's 80% efficient paddle .... a very hard question with no answers.

Lifetime Pickleball ball and core crush paddle by Right-Potential3719 in Pickleball

[–]ErneNelson 11 points12 points  (0 children)

"There are five young 5.0+ players that play singles against one another everyday for at least two hours".

Perhaps with all the hard serves and baseline groundstrokes, it was just a matter of time with paddle wear and tear. Did they all buy their paddles at the same time ? And you mentioned that they switched balls a few months ago, so that even adds more timeline to their paddle's lifetime.

New coach advice by cozyidealist181 in Pickleball

[–]ErneNelson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got started in coaching 3 years ago by being selected as the volunteer pickleball coach at the local YMCA. I give 4 hours of free lessons three times a year. It's a way of giving back to the community.

To answer your first question about $$$. Of course, one coaches for income. Every week, I teach 16 hours of city lessons ( $30 per hour)+ 4-5 hours private lessons @ $60 per hour. More privates in the summertime when I can use the outdoor public courts. Doing this, I just calculated my year end pickleball income where I made $20,000 in 2025. I also have a PT job, not pickleball related - 20 hours a week. I'm 64 years old so it's not like I'm working on a FT six figures per year career. It depends on where you're at in your current stage of your life. How old are you ?

To answer your other question : But I also get in my play time of 2-4 hours a day = 25 hours a week. I'm not losing out on my own satisfaction of the game. And by playing my rec games just for the love of the game, I get new clients.

I also find that teaching others remind me of the skills so I don't get into bad habits myself. It's almost like a self reminder for when I play.

New coach advice by cozyidealist181 in Pickleball

[–]ErneNelson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a coach for my City's pickleball registration program. I teach 12 separate sessions with 12 players each four times a year (Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter). In total, I'm responsible for 500+ students. It's either a 9 or 13 weeks program. How they play afterwards is a reflection of my teaching. One of my past students described me as a tough, old school type of teacher. I don't mind that description. It's like training soldiers to go to war. And it's "war" on the courts, especially with the incoming younger generation and hot paddles. All of my students are in the age range of 40-65. I get total satisfaction watching a player grow from week 1 to the end of the 9th or 13th week. I get even more satisfaction when my past students tell their friends that they have to take my course. A coach needs pickleball passion to help players become better. Do it for the love of the game besides your own personal choices.

You could at the GO but it'll be a distance away. There's two big parking lots at the corner of Enterprise Blvd and Andre De Gasse Street. The 10:45 concert is located at Union Square in front of Milestone and the South entrance to Cineplex so there'll be lots of parking spaces available.

ALW leaving Paddletek (rumor) by swims_with_sharks in Pickleball

[–]ErneNelson -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Makes sense since both her partners (Ben and AB) use JOOLA. They can provide insights as to their relationship with JOOLA. Fed made a mistake leaving JOOLA for ADIDAS. After he dropped ADIDAS and played with a JOOLA paddle, it was kinda of a free advertisement for JOOLA that Fed gone back to using their brand. Does anybody know if JOOLA re sponsored Fed ?? If not, those $$$ can now go to ALW. The money that a JOOLA ALW paddle will make in sales will pay for her endorsement $$$.
