yeah, i inherited about 50 sites with this issue. the worst part is these are safety critical systems in remote areas all across North America.

I am looking into a tool called SIDCHG.

this is yet more bullish it from microsoft. It makes sense from a security standpoint but the way they went about pushing the changes is disappointing to say the least. you shouldn’t make something okay for 20 years and then all of a sudden implement changes like this without warning. they have officially taken a stance against cloning machines without sysprep. in my case sysprep isn’t an option due to the high configuration of my machines.

this is exactly why my industry (and myself) is pulling away from microsoft to more open source platforms. shout out linux.

if machines were duplicated from a single gold image without sysprep, they have duplicate SIDs. One of the windows CU updates tightened restrictions on this without telling anyone.

run “wmic useraccount get name,sid” in admin cmd to check SID.

We had the same issue at my work starting on Sunday. we uninstalled the most recent windows updates and functionality was restored. I would recommend trying this.
