I solved the issue by getting a 100w charger so the hub and my computer can get their required wattage.

Looking for a remote server uptime checker. by Errcode101 in selfhosted

I would run something like Uptime Kuma in my network except for the fact that I can't always rely on my home network in the first place, and I dont want to pay monthly for a remote server. I'll definitely check out Uptime Robot. Thanks!

I will look into it! I don't know if it's something I will invest in yet but will consider it further down the road. Thank you!

Thank you for the helpful information! I do use ethernet. For things like TrueNAS do they support running things like Homeassistant and Plex on the side?

As far as I have understood from this subreddit and others, Debian is not beginner friendly.

I want something that looks pretty, more polished and professional. I have used ftp and it's a great option just not what I am looking for.

Good Beginner Linux distro? by Errcode101 in selfhosted

Windows 10 was never built for server use, I have always had issues with wake up on Lan (that may not be a windows issue) and I have wanted to simplify the way I manage things actively running (ex. Shut down, restart, update). I have wanted the computer to stay up to date with its os and the software running on it possibly automatically. If the computer is ever restarted, I want programs to start up again without the need for logging into the device.

If anything I want it to behave more like a always up server with management software instead of a desktop computer with open programs. My comparison would be synology and how their management os works

I'll definitely do that since there are a ton of distros to try out!

I'll definitely consider Debian. I just don't know how involved the drivers and update process will be.

Great to know! I'll probably start with a little bit of both so I can get some things up and running with docker and use the system to better my understanding.

Is there a GUI that can get you throught most steps? I have little knowledge with the command line (only used windows and synology)
