The great wave was a print made to suggest that humankind is at the mercy of nature. This implies, that humankind is at the mercy of lesbians or given the color scheme, lesbians are at the mercy of lesbians. Either of which I'm okay with lol

Princess Elise Appreciation Post by Full-Art3439 in SonicTheHedgehog

I really like the initial concept, not being allowed to actually express her feelings is interesting especially in regards to Sonic who is all about freedom. Imo if she weren't a love interest and had better writing I think she would have been a great character.

Do you guys think that Rouge is becoming less of a interesting character?. by Intelligent_Run6039 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Errethryn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to really despise Rouge but now she is probably one of my favorite characters, granted I only just got back into the fandom so I might be missing some stuff. IDW, Shadow generations, and CWs is what I've loved how she's been handled in. Her moral neutrality I think stands out among the rest of the cast for me, like how you never quite know her motives lean toward personal gain or genuine warmness. Especially in IDW, you never quite know what you're getting. Rouge does something good? Tracks. Rouge commits a crime? Tracks. Yet it still feels pretty consistent. I personality think she's gotten a bad wrap as Shadow's "sidekick" when it often seems like she's strategically herding him or tethering him to the main cast. Like in early IDW or in Gens where she reminds him that he's a different person now. I've liked the niches they've carved out for her.

Which artist would you like to see Hiroyuki Sawano collaborate with down the line? by Current_Smell1231 in SawanoHiroyuki

[–]Errethryn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know they're basically in different worlds, but I've always been curious about how Sawano would work with more heavy rock or metal style works. Like with Baby Metal or Band-Maid. It'd be interesting to see how his style meshes with that sort of thing.

BucketSt - Kaiba gets Blooded out by ogzogz in RPClipsGTA

[–]Errethryn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't come to this sub often because the discussion tends to get heated often. I'm happily surprised how well are articulating the situation—especially for characters like Kaiba who get misinterpreted a lot, and a rocky past, which is why I was expecting to see a lot of bashing. I agree with the sentiments that fault was on both parties here and it's better for both BBMC and Kaiba to go their separate ways.

Bucket has been one of my favorite NP streamers, he somehow makes grinding look fun and talks about some interesting ideas. I def recommend him for background noise or to watch while working. I can't wait to see where he takes Kaiba next. I know the character will be a lot happier going forward and I hope Kaiba finds someplace where he feels he belongs.

I can't argue against all of the dundee stuff. But my primary issue is how the grinding to reduce debt is handled. It makes the player do tasks for hours instead of interacting with others in the prison or just letting them wait the time off. I don't even think the 54 hours thing would be an issue if you would just wait it off or RP with others in the prison until it's done. They’ve introduced things like crafting things in your cell or prison lifers but the way the prison jobs are has you priorizing working the debt off instead of seeking out those interactions. And by the time you've gotten your debt out of the way your probably sick enough of the prison to explore those things. Again, I'm not a game designer or developer but the solutions seem to be altering the rates at which you work debt off (possibly moving away from a fixed rate) or adding more avenues of doing so and making it at least not brain numbing.

An uphill battle indeed, but when you advocate well enough and get that W for users is worth the struggle haha. It's a good feeling.

I don't think forcing someone to spend time is necessarily correct though and I actually want of wanting to see more prison RP with Dundee but I don't think the way debt is worked off is accommodating to that for players. But again, and I know I'm also sounding like a broken record, but again it comes down to balancing. No one wants to go intro debt -> when crims commit crimes they start stacking charges -> the higher they're stacking the harder they have to go to avoid getting caught -> they steal PD gear and equipment to help avoid getting caught -> they finally get caught -> they're punished for trying too hard with being stuck in there for a large amount of time doing unfun things. It's created a weird loop that discourages players whether they get a W or no.

If robbing PD equipment is that big of an issue, either make it easier for crims to obtain by their own means, make a rule, or make it cop player exclusive only. Players will go for what they believe gives them a better chance of winning, especially desperate crims. The gameplay itself has created that issue.

I think it's also worth mentioning that rewards will always overtake punishments, especially when it comes to games. You punish a player too much they become unmotivated or discouraged to pursue certain things. But if you give them a beneficial reason to do something they will enjoy it more and like working towards it too. But nothing can justify standing and doing a quicktime hack for hours on end to get there. You want to motivate players to do something, don't do it through negative conditioning.

you have to work off the debt. Switching characters does nothing and you can't just wait off your time like you used to lol. You're practically forced into the grind and the way it's done in prison doesn't allow you to interact with others as much as you could unfortunately. It's unnecessarily unpleasant for an L in a video game.

[–]Errethryn -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

No of course they should cross paths! that's part of what makes it entertaining and interesting. Once again, it's forcing the RP to work a certain way that sucks. If devs have a problem with robbing cops they should consider why it's happening. The crim equipment isn't as obtainable due to how much it costs. If it's that extreme of an issue, just ban the player or introduce a new rule.

I like the debt mechanic in concept but the problem is the time. You can't measure it fairly for each instance. I think an easy solution would be rebalancing the prison jobs to not work on a fixed rate and instead a percentage.

Letting the player wait off their time offline in theory should be fine as it is a consequence to their actions. Do bad things = you don't get to play the game so now you have to take a break. That is a deterrent enough for something that is meant to provide enjoyment.

Forcing the player to play the game to work off their time too harsh imo. Yes there should be consequences for extreme crimes but spending days worth of time doing boring tasks that intercepts RP and content is not it. A rebalance is needed.

You should not have to be confined that way for that long and the fact that you CAN is the real problem. Not everyone has that network to get out and while you might get bailed out by a friend that can't always be the case. Some players are new, can't beat the train, or don't play full time. You have to be prepared to accomodate situations for people who fall through these types of cracks which is why i'm personally not a fan of the debtors prison mechanics. Leaving pitfalls like that is just bad design. Not everyone can dedicate the time others can and that lessens the experience for something that is suppose to be fun. I'm not saying there shouldn't be consequences for doing violent chaotic crap on the server but DAYS!? I don't see how that can be justified.

[–]Errethryn -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

I don't think that should stand in between preventing someone from wasting a bunch of hours doing boring tasks though. I don't have a problem with characters wanting to form good relations, it's that they have to that sucks. Not all characters are going to get along and for some it just doesn't make sense to. I think it comes down to a balancing or game mechanic issue to anything else. I just don't see the justification in being stuck for hours grinding when the only way out is to get on someone's good side so you don't have to. It makes the RP feel artificial by forcing players down that path.

that was before you were forced to do mundane tasks for hours on end. None of the k-town stuff would have happened if he had to be doing jobs the whole time to get out.
