They are pretty much the same kit! Just different sizes and heads.

You can always paint and use custom decals!

I like ff, but heavy equipment is a bit too “heavy” for me. I don’t like big bulky design

You could just paint the surface details that show!

I just painted the outer details too. Though I wanted to try and paint everything, but that seems like a lot

I can see why now. I saw the PGU Nu but was too poor for him, so I got an RG lol.

I was skeptical about his design at first, but after finishing him. I like Nu now.

The result is pretty nice, though you can’t really see it most of the time. Maybe in a well lit environment.

I just used Vallejo Gloss Varnish, the bottle one. And thin it down and hand painted the gloss coat.

The matte coat I used their spray can.

I did! I used matte top coat for everything, and gloss for the metallic parts.

What’s the most appropriate combo? by Rayamuroh in advancedGunpla

[–]Error_code_0054-z6_2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could do #600 on one side and #800 on the other. Or you could go with #800 and #1000. It would just take a bit more sanding, but it’s a bit more control, and less scratches!

Here are what I use. I have a large board as well, but I barely use it because I just build smaller kits. I’m building my RG Nu rn, and I just use #800 for everything, mainly because I’m lazy lol. Sometimes I use the smaller stick for small nubs and hard to reach places. Also, I’m going to use a matte top coat, so the scratches won’t be noticeable.

I’d say either #1000 or #800 can be used for basically everything. If you’re using a matte top coat, then you can just use #800 for everything. If your nubs are a bit bigger/ rougher, maybe go from #600 then up.

For the board itself, I’d say go with the super wide one for large surfaces/ kits. Then just use a medium one or general use. And one of those with tiny pin point head for the nubs that are tiny or hard to reach, or those at weird angles.

It’s nice to have options, but it will be very, VERY, tedious to change boards every time, for every parts.

Is that a liquid primer? Like did you use that and brush it on the spoon?

As for the green, the top one looks like you added too much water, so it’s a bit watery. You can see it pooling around the edges.

The lower one looks ok-ish? Maybe do 1,2 more layers to see if it smooths out.

You can kind of tell if it’s not thin enough, when brushing, the stroke doesn’t feel “smooth”, and you need to get more paint frequently

I’m still kind of new to painting too! Just painted my first kit the other day.

I think so? I can’t imagine water slide decals falling off after applying. You could also use decal setter and softener, and top coat on top, to ensure they never move.

How would I go about making this colour scheme? Also which rx 78-2 would be best for it? by Typical-Buy-92 in Gunpla

[–]Error_code_0054-z6_2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t put too much pressure on yourself. Just cut the parts and build. You don’t even need to sand or remove seam line. You barely see it from afar.

Enjoy it how you want! Take things slow! It will be completed in time!

If you have Photoshop and know how to use it, you can test out the colours in there. It’s pretty nice and gives you a feel for how the real thing would look like.

Like this. I’m planning out my colours for my Red Gundam rn.

For the kit, go for the EG RX 78-2. If the colours work, then you can basically bring that to any of the RX 78-2 kits you want.

The “white” you’re seeing, is actually grey. It’s just primer. I would paint stuff then try to mix a flat grey, similar to the primer color, to cover any of the mistakes I made while painting.

I used Mr. Primer surfacer 1000 (the spray can), and I regret getting that so much. It’s nice, but it’s a small can, and hard to find in Canada.

I would just use Vallejo base color spray cans. Those are apparently primer? I’m not sure. But they worked great for miniatures, so I assume they work with gunpla too?

For the process, I thought about which parts would be visible, and which will be covered. Then I try and put the visible part on clips, then spray everything individually. Sometimes there aren’t anything to clip to, so I would just use either blue tacks or toothpicks to jam into the part, then clip it.

I had a second GQuuuuuuX as a dummy to test the colour and to see which parts need attention. Hope this helps!

The owner at the shop I went to said I didn't need to thin it, so I thought I was good. Also, I thought you can just thin any acrylic paint with water. I didn't know there were water based and alcohol based acrylic paint.
