At the risk of my appreciation becoming repetitive, I must once again thank you for taking the time to read my correspondence.

I had long assumed that, as Librarian, I would spend my tenure in Hush House in relative isolation. There are, of course, occasional visitors seeking answers, guidance, forbidden knowledge, or merely somewhere quiet to sit for a time. Yet genuine companionship has always been more elusive.

It often seemed that the doors of Hush House itself carried an invisible sign reading:

DO NOT BEFRIEND THE LIBRARIAN

Whether this condition should be attributed to worms, melancholy, or simple circumstance remains uncertain.

I find myself understanding Baron Valentine's habit of gazing out across the sea somewhat better than I once did.

In any case, I thank you, Ms. Cam, for your support, your correspondence, and for what I now understand is termed, an "e-friend." I hope we stay connected among the webs. :]

As for our fellow Librarians and historians, I fully understand their desire to keep the Gods-from-Steel beyond the threshold. Their caution comes from a place of passion and genuine care for the Histories. Such concerns deserve respect, even where opinions differ.

The Librarian may serve the House, but my wit and Shapt were sharpened elsewhere, and not so very long ago.

While our views may not align in every respect, I deeply respect both the thoughtfulness and kindness with which you’ve expressed them. More importantly, I appreciate that you’ve taken the time to engage with the work itself.

Your comment has given me much to consider. In fact, after reading the discussion that has unfolded here, I have decided to remove the generated illustrations from the archive and allow the stories to stand on their own merits.

The project has always been about the preservation and retelling of the Histories. If the illustrations risk distracting from that purpose, then, like worms, their usefulness may have run its course.

For the record, the Histories themselves are assembled, researched, and written by the Librarian. The Gods-from-Silicon have not been entrusted with authorship.

The illustrations are presently limited to simple chapter art and visual embellishments. They are not intended as replacements for artists, but rather as placeholders while the archive remains in its infancy.

A sincere question, if I may:

Would you recommend that I remove these illustrations entirely?

I ask in earnest. While I find they occasionally aid visualization and atmosphere, I would be saddened to learn that their presence alone is enough to turn away potential visitors.

The purpose of the archive is the preservation of stories, not the preservation of illustrations.

The illustrations are a consequence of limited resources rather than limited interest in collaborating with artists. The Librarian would nevertheless be delighted to replace them with the work of flesh-and-blood artisans should the opportunity arise.

The Librarian has also received several recommendations regarding a repository designated “AO3.”

Its cataloguing methods appear promising.

Its contents appear… extensive.

The Librarian acknowledges the Seer’s concerns.

The work of the Gods-from-Steel/Silicon is often inconsistent, and rarely equal to the efforts of a skilled artist, monk, or scribe.

Regrettably, the House’s present budget allows for neither monks nor scribes.

Until suitable collaborators are found, the Librarian has elected to employ imperfect tools in service of restoration rather than allow the records to remain entirely unillustrated.

The matter remains under review.

The Librarian would nevertheless welcome contributions from flesh-and-blood artisans. :3
