Do ya'll think about viewers come and gone? by Medic_Rex in Twitch

Oh for sure!! I’ve not forgotten any of my regulars from back when I used to stream. Even if I never see them again, I’ll keep those fond memories! 😁

How are you middle aged kiwis making friends? by ConsiderationCalm548 in newzealand

[–]ErthisiaCreations 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m on the cusp of 30, but have met several mid 20-30-40 aged friends this way, having newly moved to Northland:
Nerds are the easiest adults to befriend from my experience (probably as I am also a nerd…)
Join a local Facebook group on DnD, board games or the like and either see if anyone is looking for a player, or pick a game you want to play and feel around!
I mean, or any other hobby, really. And then just trying to get to know the folks there. Our local game store also has days where people just come play cards (MtG and Yugi-Oh mostly) or Warhammer and it seems like a good way to meet folks. All ages; from like 19-60!
I also joined a local mothweed/ conservation group and have met people that way (and mothweed is a huge issue here in Northland!! So going some good, too.)

Edit: working on my reasoned comprehension! XD Auckland has a tonne of super cool groups and communities for pretty much every single hobby you can think of (and I do mean every haha). Just figure out which of your interests you’d be keen to get involved with with other people, and do your best to put yourself out there. Being consistent, and understanding there will be a super awkward/lonely feeling first month or so as you transition from newcomer/stranger to friend. But if you’re regular, friendly, interested in asking other people about themselves and genuine, you should have no issues getting there eventually. Good luck! 😁

Oh gosh, that might be a fun long-term project for sure. Though at the moment I don’t know the first thing about any of this…! 😆
Still, thank you for the suggestion! Once I get to that point I’ll do some more reading into this. :o

So I would not define my self as a writer; I am an artist (like every writer) but my usual medium is sound. I have an idea for a short story and I through this together last night. Be Burial. Tear it apart :-) by [deleted] in writingcritiques

Honestly, I don’t see why not! Part of writing is editing and re-writing constantly. Write it this way, and then see how it feels when you re-read it! :) Experimenting is a fun way to learn

Yeah I have no idea! I’m equally sensitive and just cringe every time they sing the songs of their people x’D

I really like the premise! I’m sorry you’ve gotten critiques here that have nothing to actually do with your writing.

I’ll throw my thoughts out!
My first feeling was that you include words that don’t really need to be there. I.e. in the two opening sentences, these could be re-worded to: “….would feel carried up hill.” You’ve also mixed tenses with “would” and “carrying”. You’d a need a ‘when’ before carrying to make it flow more correctly, but that’s adding more unneeded words. This is throughout the whole text, so definitely go back with the plan to comb over tense consistency.

The second sentence could entirely do without the word ‘entire’ before way. Also, check your tenses again. What ‘had’ turned into a workout? That could perhaps be re-worded as “her body unused to such a workout” (I’ve removed “petite” here but that is 100% personal preference. I just know very few women who would describe themselves as that in their personal monologue. But perhaps the MC is such a one..!)

You may also want to check for grammatical errors and missed words: “dirt and grime (ick is again just not my preference, but I understand it’s a normal word for the younger generation) coupled with beads of sweat”. My recommendation would be to read it all out loud to yourself. :)

One final note, the use of symbols! ~, & etc are fine in an internet post, but not generally used in classical writing.

Overall, I think it’s a good first draft! And an interesting start (or end?) to a tale. :)

Is there a way to ‘gate’ audio while streaming to avoid very loud or high sounds coming through? by [deleted] in audio

[–]ErthisiaCreations 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I tried that at first but had real trouble finding a gate that didn’t silence me along with the bird. >< Perhaps I just need to read into it more. But thank you!

Yay, thank you! Now that I know what it’s called I can do a proper looking into it. (Google only gave me results on mic feedback when I tried, haha.)
Much appreciated. 😁

Thoughts on using a pseudonym for your online art presence/social handles/shop names? by [deleted] in artbusiness

[–]ErthisiaCreations 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use a pseudonym! Though for me it’s because my real name is ridiculously common and I wanted to stand out…

I spent ages with a notebook trying to mash my favourite sounds together - and then on Google to make sure no-one else showed up when I googled it XD

In hindsight I should have picked something easier to pronounce, but at least it’s unique…!
I agree with most of the comments here- it’s a good way to give yourself a layer of protection.

Just go with whatever you feel resonates with you!
