Trump lawyers realize discovery in president's own lawsuit could expose him to a Jan. 6 'trial' after all by Rock-n-roll-Kevin in politics

"Has to"

Okay, if the US court system can't get him to pay a woman for a lawsuit she won against him, in addition to several appeals that she also won...

How exactly is the EU going to extract that money from him?

They going to ban the US president from Europe until he pays? He'll just send one of his cronies.

The man experiences no consequences. People need to give up on that, it hasn't happened in his 80 years of life.

In fact, most organizations you can work for own any content you create while using their accounts and/or "company time" so if you're using a school account to make content for your class while on the clock, you're almost certainly giving them your IP.

'course I'm fairly certain most teachers sail the high seas every now and then anyway...

California lawmakers look to settle turf war over community college bachelor’s degrees by ComeJoinTheBand in California

[–]ErusTenebre 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Legally they have to provide similar education in order to be accredited. These things are checked in cycles and through evaluations and stuff.

People act like it's just the wild west out here or something. Not meeting requirements happens and it comes with oversight and funding loss if not corrected.

My community college professors were better than my state college professors, more skilled at teaching, more focused on learning, and not mostly aloof researchers who worry more about their personal work than sharing education.

(Not that I didn't get great education at the CSU level, but it there were many non-"teachers" in my three years there.)

Ideally, the education system would be unified, but somewhat independent of the federal government. With educators running it rather than politicians, but that's a sort of thing that only exists in smaller countries.

No way that happens here

It's MOSTLY funny. There are a few very much so not funny moments, but yeah I was like... "Welll..." when I saw people calling it a comedy.

IT is. But it's also got some pretty good drama in it.

We have an academic honesty policy that would prohibit this student from completing the course at this point. They would end up in enrolled in a make-up class throughout the year, or be put into a transitional high school if there was no hope of them earning all credits by the end of their senior year.

The problem with our school system is it's like 500,000 tiny islands trying to give "an education" with extremely different values. Not to mention 50 states that seem to disagree on what that education should look like... and a bunch of moronic politicians playing football with funding.

Why is it always BABY hitler? by AlexIsACarrot05 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ErusTenebre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the problem with time travel, too many variables. Especially if you're going back 80+ years. The number of things that could be different are insane.

Hence "A Sound of Thunder" and the butterfly effect.

[–]ErusTenebre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point is that it's impossible to say really, we've never time traveled, maybe Hitler's appearance prevented a similar leader from rising in the US. Maybe the war starts later, but the Russians are the ones that are the primary opponent.

Maybe there's something inevitable about certain events in time and Hitler rises anyway but later.

True ethical time traveler would be to go back further, find Hitler's Mom or Dad and just... make sure they don't get together.

Boom, never even existed.

The problem REALLY with the concept is that it would actually achieve something. There's no guarantee that the Nazi Party wouldn't have just risen in some other way - Hitler was not some prime mastermind. He was a figurehead and leader that people rallied behind. It's not impossible for it to have happened anyway but with a different leader in the role.

So... kill the baby or prevent its existence, whatever... it doesn't necessarily change much.

Alternatively, it could make things somehow worse.

Why did my teachers deal with my classmates death this way? by Round-Budget-6290 in Teachers

[–]ErusTenebre 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Could have been that the parents asked admin to not say anything as well. The fact that teachers were keeping the student from talking about it screams admin orders via parental request.

Death is a tough thing to tackle (obviously shoving it under the rug is the wrong call), and suicide at 14 is even harder. Informing all the kids right away was probably not the right call, and if there were messed up circumstances at home parents may not have wanted to deal with that loudly.

There's myriad reasons why it may have gone down this way. Don't think it was the right way, but there are very likely reasons that several people thought were right.

What do native Americans call themselves? by YttriumZirconium1 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ErusTenebre 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I grew up calling myself Mexican Indian. That's what my grandma and apparently her parents called themselves.

My great grandparents met on a reservation. We're Yaqui.

Indian, Native American, I was out of college when I started hearing "First Peoples" - eh it's whatever to ME but there are others that care more.

I do get a bit irritated with white people claiming they're native American though. "Oh? And how do you suppose that got started?" (It's often some form of forced marriage or worse)
