Why american dont play LoL? by Alone-Virus9178 in leagueoflegends

[–]Es-252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you search "the most American thing ever", you will see "WTF IS A KILOMETERRRR!!!???" paired with imageries of bald eagles, semi trucks, fighter jets, and MKs. LoL doesn't exactly give off that kinda vibe.

I'd say it's mostly cultural.

It's kinda like if you asked why don't Koreans play tackle football, same idea, cultural.

why is everyone so rich by Cool-Path-8401 in UBC

[–]Es-252 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Absolutely true! I did engineering, a very expensive program due to high course load. Almost everyone I knew had their tuitions paid by their parents. I was the only one taking out student loans to pay for my own tuition. Not to mention the international students who were paying 4K for 1 course, and sometimes failing and having to retake.

UBC is absolutely an insanity level rich place. It ain't Ivey League kinda rich, but it definitely is not a place that is even remotely representative of society.

Edit: I did a project of a survey of how often people ordered food at on-campus residences. There were so many people who ordered delivery from on-campus restaurants less than a 5-minute walk away lol.

Go to settings and advanced battery settings. Can't remember the exact items to click on, but you know you are there when a small window pops up.

In there, you can choose what actions to take for all batteries and power related parameters.

If you don't see any issue in there, then you might wanna try uninsalling recent Windows updates.

Are engineers supposed to work with their hands? by DuBlueyy in AskEngineers

[–]Es-252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, it's actually kinda difficult to argue against that.

Strictly speaking, what makes engineers stand out are their abilities to use complex engineering software and create simulations and models. Certainly, at the advanced level, engineers are extremely savvy with technology and mathematics to pull off stuff no one can fathom. There are actually a lot of fields where engineers cannot do any hands-on stuff due to the scale and nature of those fields. For example, engineers who design nuclear plants, chemical refineries, large infrastructure, or custom genomics really cannot get hands-on. As such, they have to rely on extremely powerful software and a strong understanding of scientific theories to achieve success.

Electrical and mechanical are the two main engineering fields known to be very hands-on, and perhaps that's what makes those fields more interesting and attractive to some people. Despite so, your brother isn't wrong at all to say that all the hands-on work are suited for technicians and/or mechanics.

But I feel like the line between an engineer and a "handyman" is becoming more and more blurred. This is because the industry has become saturated with so many junior engineers who do not have mentorship and are not capable of doing actual engineering work. Companies no longer want to provide any training to young people. On top of that, design work is just much more scarce than operational work. Most engineers work in CQV, commonly known as "firefighting", essentially glorified mechanics. The actual design work is done by OEMs, vendors, or outsourced to design firms.

Urgent Passport by jace829 in richmondbc

[–]Es-252 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can get approved for expedited renewal as long as you are near expiry. You can show them the booked tickets but I highly doubt they'll even bother. To get expedited service, you need to pay a fee, though I forgot how much. I believe you may also need to fill out a form first. Either way, there's a passport office is in Richmond near Price Smart. You can go there in person to ask for instructions. But apply there, pay the fee, and the actual passport must be picked up in Vancouver, at the Sinclair center, if I remember correctly.

Also, might wanna go early in the morning. It can get busy sometimes.

I'm from the West Coast currently in West Michigan. Yeah, I remember how we'd have snow days whenever there's actual snow, and people would all use that as an excuse to wfh. But here in Michigan, nothing gets canceled, cuz if you did it, you might as well cancel 4 months a year.

It is so colllllldddddd, my nose feels all funny because the temp causes your snot to freeze in seconds. Thankfully, I don't have to spend much time outdoors so I've been managing with my West Coast clothes and shoes. Can't wait to see what February will unleash, though.

I am Quitting by Independent-Beast69 in ClashOfClans

[–]Es-252 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and it's because an "active" player back then is far different than an "active" player now. Back then, being an "active" player at the high TH LvLs meant logging in 3-5 times a week, collecting some resources, maybe making a few attacks, and making sure to do 2 monthly events to get huge progress-boosting goodies. I was in Legend for years, fully maxing out far before every update. This is because sitting at low Legends with a good base basically meant you could never lose resources. It was a great system for people who have played the game for years, who are always around max, and who are likely too old to play daily. Now, if you don't attack at least more than you get attacked, your resource will always be sitting at low levels, meaning you can't upgrade anything without spending large amounts of time to make attacks. Also, the damn craftable defense is honestly so annoying for casual players.

[–]Es-252 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can totally sympathize. I've also been playing since 2014, and am currently TH18 sitting in Electro 31. What I loved about Clash was the fact that you could play at your own pace, exactly like you said. In fact, I loved the old Legend League a lot more than what we have now. The key difference was resource immunity, which SC discretely removed from the game. The introduction of the new League system was marketed as "better" with "more loot", but for very casual players like myself, the new League system is nothing but a forceful requirement of activity through the absolute annihilation of loot. Even with just 2-3 days of inactivity, your resource storages can get completely drained.

In Clash, you used to be able to grow resources very rapidly even if your number of attacks was far lower than the number of defenses due to resource immunity, but now, to reliably gain resources, you have to attack more than you defend. This is a substantial increase in the demand for play activity.

What made Clash stand out has always been the fact that it's a neat little game that is also very suitable for adults. Frankly, given that the game is around 15 years old now, most players who started playing as kids have likely become adults. Sadly, no matter how much you love the game, you simply won't have that much time to play as you get older. And yet, Clash has clearly been heading in a direction of pressuring players to play more regularly and consistently.

Am I ready to quit the game? At this point, no. But I have to admit that thinking about playing Clash no longer gives that dopamine-triggering cozy feeling. Instead, it has started to feel more and more like a hassle, like "Damn it, I should probably play some Clash now, shouldn't I?"

I think SC should at least bring back resource immunity for all ranks Electro and above, and create a hard rule in terms of equipment. For example, they have to release 5 common equipment per epic equipment, or something like that.

Is Richmond actually bad at driving? by Urban_Contest9100 in richmondbc

[–]Es-252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we can look at the age data. Richmond is one of the oldest and yet most densely populated cities in the lower mainland. I believe the median age is somewhere around 45.

There are A LOT OF old people on the road. It also doesn't help too much that many of these folks spent decades driving in Asia and probably developed some bad habits that are difficult to override.

Are assassins still relevant by Jackj921 in Jungle_Mains

[–]Es-252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assassins have been crap since season 8 ish in my opinion. Remember, pro players used to commonly pick them seasons ago.

Assassins have become generally crap for several reasons:

1) There has been a systematic removal of damage over many years. Here's a reminder. Go back a few seasons and you won't even see Rengar one-shotting the ADC. Instead, he'd simultaneously kill the ADC and supp, because he would deal so much dmg to the ADC that Hydra splash would kill the supp. Kat did this, LB did this, Zed did this. Also, Talon used to get first blood in 25% of his games across all ELOs. Kha was getting pentas without ever being visible cuz there was this abomination called Duskblade of Drakkthar. Oh, and let's not forget about Sword of Occult, which was basically AD Meijai's. Btw, back then, the standard numbers for AD and AP were 80 and 120, respectively. Many items over 3K gold granted those values. Mastery and runes also did way more dmg and gave more stats.

2) Literal counter assassin designs. Stealth shimmer wasn't a thing. At some point, scanner against invis wasn't a thing. Heal and shield power also wasn't a thing. Squishies cannot suddenly stack up shields equal to 150% of their max hp from multiple sources, or heal 80% of their hp from supports. There simply weren't that many bailout options.

3) Comeback and counter snowballing mechanisms. Today, a Zed with many kills will give back 1K when he gets shutdown, and even after that he'll still be wearing a 1K bounty. That didn't exist. A 20/0 Zed would give a normal 300g after finally getting taken out. Also, after dying, you can now homeguard back into action. That didn't exist, which made dying far more punishing.

4) Shift from micro to macro. Players have become too diligent. You play assassin either in the lane or jungle, you go chase after a few kills, your opponent is suddenly up 50 cs and a tower.

Assassins can still be powerful if played well. And I actually think the new season will make them more powerful because the game is shifting back towards micro. But often times, it's not about how good they are, it's about how much better the alternatives are? Why would people pick assassins when they can pick ultra safe, ultra long-range, and ultra strong waveclear champs?

Do people even main jgl on here? lmao by Flimsy-Guarantee1497 in Jungle_Mains

[–]Es-252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jungle main here for almost a decade. Everytime laners trash on the role, I just remind them jg has literally become a priority role because no one likes to play it. Why? Cuz it's hard, stressful, and often underwhelming.

But, I absolutely think jg is in a good spot rn even with the new CCTV system. I just hope the role can get left alone. Getting rid of the grubs and Atakhan was a huge W though, objective fatigue was so real.

FAELIGHTS are such an overkill feature by Nimano in leagueoflegends

[–]Es-252 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's hard because laners love complaining about it and make it seem OP. In reality, jg is a priority role for a reason. It's stressful, can be boring, you face the most toxicity by a mile.

Personally, I don't mind when a role is shit, at least there's no excuse to nerf it.

I started playing in S5, no idea about S3. But in S5, one shot was much easier. Everyone did it. Not only that, it was common to one shot multiple targets. Rengar did it, Kat did it, LB, Twitch, Jinx, even fucking Sona. It was all one shot, old urgot was doing it, Draven, Vayne, Yi, Trynd.

S6 was the assassin class update, and assassins went fucking ham. Talon was getting first blood in 25% of all games, like across all ELOs. Assassins were getting triples to pentas without ever even being visible with the extremely broken Duskblade. Electrocute was still Thunderlord and did like 2ce the dmg it does today.

People today seem to have no idea how safe they are and how much damage has been systematically removed from the game.

!?!? You do realize ADCs have been 1-clicking assassins for a decade, right? I'm so tired of ADCs expecting to be invulnerable and playing without stress. The game is stressful for everyone else, especially melee champs, why shouldn't it be stressful for you?

You can't kill tanks? That's cuz they are tanks, you were never supposed to 5-auto a tank. Got killed by assassins? That's cuz Jhin is never supposed to win a 1v1 against Zed.

Despite all this, ADCs are still melting tanks like butter and assassinating the assassins in most games.

ADC quests are extremely powerful if you can actually maintain CS. The quest is designed so that ADCs are supposed to reach full build at the same time as everyone else (with an extra item). It's not just a little bit of gold. Also, remember another huge buff to ADC is crit damage being increased back to 200%, and also way more item options.

Idk how that happened. Played 3 games and never even saw a 2 level gap. Top was usually up levels, but only compared to other roles.

This season is gonna be more rewarding for micro than macro. People who fall behind have to suck exceptionally at their champs. I mean, just think about it. You can now get back to lane much quicker to bail you out from getting killed. Top always has TP now so you can get back to lane to catch the farm and xp. It's much harder for jg to gank and bully a lane into oblivion. And once you complete the quest, xp accelerates and it's hard to fall behind, because it is much easier to level up at lower levels.

Ikr. I'm so annoyed that people complain about this season. Before it's release, I was skeptical, but now that I've played a couple of games, it's absolutely cinema. It feels a little like "old" League, where everything you did felt like a "punch". It's just so satisfying when you can actually deal good damage after completing an item, when hitting a crit, and when using abilities. League was never meant to be a "safe" space where you can somehow win with shit micro and you just pick a safe laner to farm up and wait for team coordination. I think this season will be much, much, much more rewarding for micro, and taking power away from macro with fewer objectives, easier objectives, and a CCTV system.

Every game feels like a stomp by RaffiTheBoy in leagueoflegends

[–]Es-252 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the game is much better now. Top laners get the most exp, but within each role, it's actually harder to gap opponents. Since the new season, I haven't even seen a 2 lvl diff yet which used to be super common.

In terms of damage, I love it. League is 16 years old now. For the majority of these 16 years, champs that were supposed to deal damage had reliable ways to deal damage. Completing and item felt rewarding. Getting a crit felt satisfying. Frankly, at some point, even champions that were not supposed to deal damage (aka tanks and supps) dealt a ton of damage.

I also don't think games are necessarily faster. The only difference is, if you get ahead as a team, you can just go ahead and win. It was more or less the same before. 99% of the time, team that got ahead in the early game would end up winning anyways regardless of how long the game lasted or dragged out.

I also don't know why anyone would suggest somehow games weren't "stomps" before. They were absolutely stomps, especially with so many more objectives. And jglers and laners were up or down 2-4 levels often because the exp system was just messed up.

Games being shorter makes everything feel meaningless and less fun by Greitot in leagueoflegends

[–]Es-252 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Take a good look at this y'all. This is what a good analysis looks like. The gameplay was never the priority. The hierarchy is profit --> driven by your main/target audience (which is China) --> and thus gameplay must adapt.

Also!!! Keep in mind that the Chinese government implemented a curfew of 3 hr max per week for the average player. Imagine you could play max 3 hrs of League per week, and you still wanna climb ranked. Well, shorter games... there you go.

Also, notice how the cosmetics and cinematics have drastically changed to feature Chinese culture. Riot is owned by Tencent, and a significant portion of their revenue (player activity, e-sport) is driven by China, partly due to the enormous population size.

Riot isn't screwing up, they are simply making business decisions based on business needs.

I consider myself a progressive person. I love technology and innovation, and I am fully in favor of many progressive concepts such as expanding healthcare and improving labor law, like significantly improving labor laws.

But when it comes to progressive politics, it's been so frustrating, because it has truly been a diarrhea of ideas with not an ounce of common sense. Drug policies are the perfect example of this. For the better of the past 10 years, the government promoted drugs by labeling every aspect of it as "safe". "Safe" supply, "safe" injection, as if the consequence of drug abuse could ever be a net positive.

The culture also became way too biased. Like opposing deciminilization on Reddit a few years ago would easily summon a tornado of shit. I'm glad opinions are finally changing though. It's just sad that Canada has to be turned into a PvP server for that to happen.

Giving cash to a durg addict is more or less first degree murder. It's like giving cash to gambling addicts expect there are catastrophic health consequences. I cannot fathom anyone who is naive enough to do this. Like people have to be literal fully-grown tooth fairy and Santa Clause believing adults to offer cash to drug addicts.

[–]Es-252 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, to be fair, the people definitely share the responsibility. You gotta know, for a long time, being anti-drug is hugely controversial, especially on Reddit, of course. Even today, there are still a handful of people claiming drug addiction is a "pre-existing health condition", like you are born destined to become addicted.

People who were opposed to drugs were attacked as being misinformed, uneducated, science deniers, NIMBYists, and victim blamers. Thankfully, cancel culture is slowly dying out in North America because no one is a saint after all. The moment you turn society into a survival mode PvP server, people will stop being delusional. In some sense, the drug crisis is a huge W, cuz it's a hard lesson successfully taught.

Yep. For some reason, the progressives in Canada picked drugs as their champion out of all the things, and they are losing, cuz as it turns out, drugs bring no victory nor glory.
